Non-exclusive. Split licensing fees 50/50, and they collect NOTHING on the back-end. They accept mp3 submissions if you choose. No submission fees. I’ve sent some tracks to them last week…Awaiting response.

Hi Floe, have you got news from them about your submissions – I’ve also sent previously and no info yet? Thanks!

Looks great on paper, and easy to navigate uncluttered site. Can take up to 2 months to vett submissions. Quality is key, so bring your a-game

Beatpick.com has been able to place my music several times. Small quality oriented company. Nice people and easy to work with. My only problem is they have an odd policy in terms of non commercial projects using music for free. I guess it’s their way to promote their services and our music tough.

I’m very happy with this company. A great value for my music. I wish great success to it.

They’ve placed my music several times and gotten me some $$. As other commenters have noted, they have a great 50/50 non exclusive deal with no back end robbery. Great company.

Beatpick is not only a great company, but they have a great team of people that care about music and their clients. They license all of their music using Creative Commons licenses which we love.
We consider Beatpick a true ally in WinkSound’s musical endeavors!

Beatpick has been great for us. It is one of the few licensing companies that have actually delivered on getting our music placed in various places and they have been very profitable for our music. I highly recommend using them.

I have been involved with Beatpick almost since they started. Fantastic company who have pushed my music and got it out to places I would never had done myself.
Always helpful and quick to reply to requests. Genuine music fans.

I appreciate the great feedback about BeatPick.com I’ve known of them, but haven’t actually done business with them yet. Can anyone tell me what their acceptance rate is and if they only accept complete “CD albums” or also a variety of unique (single) songs which are not part of an artist’s retail CD or album collection? I’ll have to check them out a bit closer and also see if they are promoting any retail sales or focusing only on commercial licensing.
I’ve been following Magnatune since 2004 shortly after it started, and I remember a blog John Buckman posted where he mentioned that new companies like “BeatPick” were following his Magnatune biz model which makes him happy, and he actually encourages it as a good trend for the new music industry. I agree, and isn’t it amazing that now a follower is passing up it’s own role model leader!
But it’s all good honest competition, and may there be many more to help level the playing field against the big Corps who are now getting the lowest Ratings rankings on this site!
Cheers!
Michael

How long do they take to get back to you? Im sure the site says 8 weeks, but it seems to be far longer than that since i hit them up.
[Reply]
HI everyone, I am just dropping a message to say that we have been very slow with replying to music submissions. This is due to 1. a huge volume of music submissions per month, 2. to the fact that we are still a small team and we’re trying to hire in sales & IT before hiring new music consultants, and at last, 3. to the fact that we listen to all music submissions very carefully and we reply to all artists that submit music to us.
Our standard policy is 8 weeks to reply to music submissions. At present time, It can take up to 12 weeks. Be sure that as a Beatpick artist you will be receiving very quick reply to all your questions. Thank you for your patience!

As of today, still haven’t heard back from BeatPick. It’s been right at the two month mark, so I should hear something soon….I’ll let you know!
[Reply]
I sent an e-mail on 11-6-09. Guess I have a long wait!

I signed with BeatPick in Sept and have already gotten a few paid placements (they pay quarterly, so i’ll get my first check in a couple of months)!!!
I submitted my music to them in the end of July, and it took them 2 months to process/check out my music…
I am very happy with BeatPick and highly recommend them!!

I sent my music submission to Beatpick July 26th 2009, today on Thanksgiving day November 26th 2009, 5 months later I got my response.
Dear Charlie Mac,
while your submission is appreciated, we are sorry telling you that after reviewing your tracks, BeatPick has decided not to select them for their online catalog.
I cannot thank you enough for your time and interest thus far and hope the
future provides an opportunity for us to work together! All the best of luck with your creations,
the BeatPick.com team

Good luck my follow musicians, this seems like a good company to work with.
Sincerely,
Charlie Mac

Can anyone clarify:
It says on checklist at the top of this page that Beatpick re-titles, yet they don’t collect any back end royalties.
Is this correct, and , if so, why do they re-title if they have no stake in the royalties?
I searched the Beatpick website and didn’t see anything mentioned about re-titling.
Thanks

Art, December 11th, 2009 at 10:44 pm Reply:
Good point Erik, I’ll change Beatpick re-titling to “unknown” until I hear otherwise.
Thanks

Hi Eric and Art, this is Mirjam from BeatPick, just to be clear: We don’t do retitling and we don’t collect back end royalties. Those are 100% yours. Sorry for the misunderstanding, best
Mirjam

Got rejection notice today as well. Maybe they’re looking for something specific.
[Reply]
They want mainstream music. I suppose that anything similar to a Top 40 song would do.
[Reply]
Mirjam, January 11th, 2010 at 1:47 am Reply:
Hi Yadgyu, we do not want mainstream music only. Beatpick deals with all sort of music and we also offer rare genres and sonorities next to the more popular styles of music. We get very excited when we manage to sign some traditional rare music. From Arabian music to Japanese traditional songs and Mexican bolero, we wish we had them all.
We are looking for anything that can also be listened to while driving your car, while chilling out with a cocktail or dancing in a party. We do not look for production or stock music. We look for real music that could be released on a CD, vinyl or similar. An album or at least an EP worth of music. We have nothing against production music but our clients contact Beatpick.com when they are looking for “real” sonorities. Therefore we only accept a very limited number of production music composers. It’s vital to us that you submit music to Beatpick.com and we cannot thank you enough for that.

Exactly how do you define “stock music”? I have yet to get a concise definition from a music library/music publisher. The term seems ambiguous to me.

s r dhain, January 12th, 2010 at 12:39 pm Reply:
i think they mean L.A. synthesis style, 3 or 4 chord pad and piano tracks, which border on muzak. Its actually quite a dated sound, and comes under “stock”. I dont have the time to really go into what exactly that means, but im sure ( or hopeful) that someone else here does know and can elaborate

s r dhain may be right.
I wouldn’t have thought they, or others, mean anything so specific. You won’t get a good concise definition. But you get to know it when you hear it. There is a long list of qualities that might get you in the bin. Some of them artistic choices, some about production, etc.
In this case, and most, it means music good enough to stand on its own, as opposed to music almost necessarily looking to be made worthwhile through a pairing with other media.
That was convoluted, but I think pretty much on the mark.

I’ve been with Beatpick since last summer and I think they are great. They got three of my tunes on Italian tv in the fall. They take NO backend.
[Reply]
I’ve been with Beatpick for a couple of years. first year less than 500euro. second year more than 3500 (+ future back end royalties from my PRO).
they have a weird policy for non commercial projects. you get no money but a couple of times my music was used in a cool way.
[Reply]
Just submitted 4 songs. Here starts the waiting game. Wish me luck.
[Reply]
I wonder if I should/can resubmit new tracks? I really like Beatpick!

JUST UPLOADED 4 SONGS TO THEM. I HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO WAIT!!
GOOD LUCK TO ALL.

Bit of a mess uploading. 4 files selected to upload but it gets so far and hangs. Upload individual and it works but then its as if I have only submitted 1 track. I then select 2 more to go together. The same happens, the upload stops midway. Very frustrating as I now can’t be certain which files they have.

i have lots of tracks with them. seem like great people. no real $$ yet, but that could be a reflection of my material and how it fits with their client base.

I sent them tracks weeeeks ago. Heard nothing.

Just got turned down myself!
Like others have said, its more of an indie-artist,
off the beaten path type company thats looking for
music to eat your dinner by,so to speak.
I also got turned down by John @ Magnatune though he liked our musicianship and thought production was high,as they are looking for artist driven
Indie type stuff,real niche oriented.
