Hello Pierre,
Thank you for posting. I found your post very enlightening. My music, under another name, was accepted in early July so I guess the catalogue managers haven't gotten around to it yet. I posted my concerns here at MLR instead of contacting Yooka support because I was hoping another more seasoned licensor had the same or similar experience and could shed some light on how things operate with Yooka.
Thanks again

@ Sonic Pysops:

We have no licensor called "Sonic Pysops" on YookaMusic (unless you used another name to register with us).

40 Euros is the price paid by the buyers to use music for a corporate website for example. Most of our licenses are around 250 – 300 Euros. And yes, buyers (but also "competitors") often contact us directly with requests instead of using the systems of Opportunity and Job Posting.

Regarding your tracks: Our catalogue managers review the metadata. So, if you submitted a "Pop song" but also selected the genres "Hip hop", "Classical", "Jazz" and "Soundtrack" (unfortunately this happen frequently), you will probably only find your song under the genre "Pop".

I also would like to point the fact that, due to the large number of submissions we are receiving each day, our catalogue managers are currently only accepting or rejecting the submissions. Meanwhile, another part of the team is reviewing the metadata. They are currently busy with the tracks we accepted in March (!). So, we still have a lot of tracks to review. We are excepting to achieve this before the end of the year.

This said, feel free to contact our support and we will do our best to find out the problem (if any) with your tracks.

Best,

@ Mike

Buyers use the "Opportunity" system ONLY if they don't find the tracks they are seeking for in our catalogue… So, it doesn't reflect at all the licensing activities of the site.

This said, we believe that most of the buyers are not aware of this system and the system of "Job Posting" (that doesn't work neither). From next September, we will focus the attention of the buyers on this.

Yeah I can't figure Yooka out either. For a company that's pretty anal about what they accept in their catalogs (They deny more than they approve) you'd think they'd have some higher end VIP clients that pay out more than 20 euro. Unless Yooka keeps most of it.

Another thing that bothers me is I have some music with them but for the life of me I can never find my music when I search their site. When I enter the metadata that I wrote for my music in their track search feature none of my music comes up. It will only appear if I enter the song by name. Has anybody else experienced this?

I genuinely don't understand how Yooka can attract any music providers, when you consider the fact they have provided only a handful or 'opportunities' since 2009.
Can anyone explain this?
thanks

I honestly don't think most people come here for the ratings anyhow. I don't even know how one votes and I've been coming here for a while. Most people come for the comments and discussions, and most people can discern what is made in anger, what is a true experience, and what might be stated from lack of experience. It's a great forum in that sense because it does include everyone that is attempting to make a living in the music business (which today is somewhat akin to the lottery in that the number of music makers is always going to supersede the number of buyers or consumers). It's a free, open forum with the only rules being that Art tries to keep people civil and courteous in their conversations. No more, no less. I don't care who votes in the ratings. I seldom look at them. I have noticed a couple of sites giving a shout out to their musicians to vote in the ratings and if they are doing a good job, why not? I voted to keep them just because it can serve as a starting point for someone starting out without a clue. Nothing is perfect for everyone, but I have learned more on this site than I have from many others. Shared experience is a great teacher and I'm appreciative of those who have shared, even if I disagreed with them. It's good to see both sides of the coin.

I agree. The first library I signed with took about a year before I had any placements. Sales in 5 months for that type of library is great in my book.
