I really would like to hear how its going, Since our initial phone interview they have sent listings of things they would submit us for... this is a good sign..
I definitely don;t think the 400.00 would be worth it if they are a library only, but it sounds like they actually involve the use of promotions, and have a partner set up that one would need an entertainment lawyer for as far as soliciting our material... the Entertainment Lawyer, if he was worth his GAB, would be much more expensive.... OOOOOOOOH the dilemma... any news anyone?

There are lots of libraries that don't want your $400. This sounds like another taxi. Consider there are no guarantees whether you spend $400 or not so why spend the $400? I'm always leary whenever I see the term "exposure." I see being used alot as some kinda separate your money from your wallet cliche but then again I'm a bit jaded by people wanting money up front anymore. I'm done with that but maybe it would work for you if it's legit. jmo

I appreciate the objective way you analyzed this John. Yes, good idea to wait.

My red light goes off when I see multiple alerts like this one on the Internet: http://www.myspace.com/songplacementssam

Where there’s so much smoke, there could be fire. Proceed with caution!

It's late and I spent over an hour reading all of this post above. I am now an avid fan of this site. Thanks to all of you (on both sides) it is making me think a lot.

I was contacted by fastbreak and my band had a speaker phone interview with them yesterday. I really enjoyed the conversation and they seemed knowledgeable about music in a variety of ways.

At the same time, I'm in a band, we make great music, but like most bands, we are super poor. $400.00 would still be worth the exposure it sounds like they would give us.

But something is still not right... gut feeling or wrongful anxiety?

I would hate to give up a great opportunity because I am afraid of losing 400.00..
but we work so hard for our money it would be really sad to lose it. Especially when there is so much we are doing to promote ourselves, we know how essential promotion is, and we need someone like fastbreak.. (if they are genuine)

In one way I see the upfront pay is a new business model for promotions. Those that suggest that things just aren't done that way.. well maybe some of it needed to change, and the industry is changing no one can doubt that.

I really really want to believe Karen is real and has nothing to do with this HITT guy I am hearing nasty things about.. but here are the obvious red flags..

1.) ambiguity: this is why AMERICANS hate POLITICS
2.) GUT INSTINCT (maybe just because of the upfront payment and that may be misjudgement)
3.) The guy that suggests he is working with fast break.... well I just don't believe he exists.. linguistically (and I have my PHD in English) he is talking in such an extreme dialect its as if someone were writing it to sound different on purpose, and the other fastbreak posts seem to be the work of 1 or 2 individuals... I think the guy is a fraud, and no I can't prove it and I wish I could prove him real to be honest, because then we would know right..
4.) Emailing without listening to music (not worried about the same email, we send that to our fans, there is simply no time to constantly write new things.

We have not decided whether to take this risk or not... but you know those of you who really want to know, You should make a contract together for the $400.00 it costs, and my job will be to write weekly with my band's music on fastbreak...

As of now, weighing the evidence, its not worth the band doing it but I will return daily to see if things have change...
and Karen of fastbreak,, if you are the real deal .. thank you
if you aren't then recognize the very discussion is about taking a chance and just like your artists, its time to take a chance and do what is right.. because if we all knew you were honest, you would be making a lot more money right now

Where are the companies that don't take a fee upfront? Well, start with the music libraries that focus on licensing. If you're a band looking for publicity, then a service like Fast Break might be useful (if they actually do what they say).

On the other hand, if you're a composer with a bunch of tracks that you want to make some money from, focus on the license based libraries. Some examples - Audiosocket, Pump (if you're ok with 35%). There are lots of other options, those are just two companies out of 100's.
Royalties based libraries are probably more appropriate if you have a lot (100+ tracks) of music to offer.

I guess it depends on what you mean but in my interpretation of your comment there are tons of people/companies right on this site that do not collect money upfront and help you. They're the music libraries. If you continue to spend hours trawling through this site you'll be able to ascertain which ones you want to contact.

They are. But you'll find those discussions under other company headings. This particular page is about Fast Break Music and that's what people are discussing here.

If anyone is interested, I have been in contact with a rep at Fast Break and he has been prety cool with me. He has answered all my questions (the next day via e-mail & I sent him alot thanks to what I've read on many sites). Alot of concerns I saw on this site were answered.
A rep is a rep, a salesman is a salesman - I know that since I am one myself.
So far they haven't gave me a reason to hate yet, too ealry still (repeating my self here "I do not work for Fast Break"!)
May give them a shot and keep everyone updated on if its really scam or not .You don't win the lottery if you don't play...think of all the scratch tickets you buy to win the big one.
