A number of folks have raised the question of building their own music library website for selling music. There are a number of eCommerce solutions out there but not many that work well with production type music. Below are three, from free to wildly expensive.

Here’s what I know of so far. If you have any suggestions to add to this list please let me know in the comment section.

Music licensing Software from Mark Lewis and it’s free!

  1. “Remember there are always bespoke options out there for those who want to create something unique that is well designed and feature rich.”

Nice looking sites but I’m wondering how affordable they are for the average composer. I e-mailed Simon so we’ll see.

    • Heard back from Simon at dreamshock.com and here’s the details.

“Sites usually range between £5-10k depending on requirements, and we offer a staggered payment system, whereby 50% is required upfront and then the final 50% required just before go live – which is typically around 12 weeks, so allows you three months between payments.”

As I mentioned, from the ones I looked at, they were well designed sites and very functional but the cost would be out of the range for most composers.

  2. Remember there are always bespoke options out there for those who want to create something unique that is well designed and feature rich. Checkout http://www.dreamshock.com/website-design/#audio-library to see a little of what we do and as a small but powerful company you get to talk to the guys who will actually be designing and developing your website. Plus pricing is far less than you would expect and with clients like BMG, Beds and Bests, 247BPM, Free Notes Music and No Shert Music to name a few – we know what we’re doing. Feel free to email me to discuss further simon@dreamshock.com

  3. Interesting.. that free software worked right away (which rarely happens) but is a little spartan (design wise) probably can be customized easily..I recommend it to try
