    Hello,
    I have a quick question as regards copyright for UK TV themes;
    What permission do I need to obtain to do the following;
    • Make an 30 second audio advert based on the theme from a BBC programme
    • Lyrics: I will re-write the lyrics completely for my advertising purpose (and re-record by a singer)
    • Music: I will re-record the backing track (not original recording)
    • Use of final re-recorded piece: for online and local radio adverts

    Who should I approach to ask permission to do this – the BBC, the composer, someone else?
    Many thanks in advance for any advice.

    I would start with the publisher.
