Bummer. At some point I guess us Sonar users will be looking for a new DAW. Any suggestions Window users on DAW alternatives?

Gibson Brands announced today that it is ceasing active development and production of Cakewalk branded products. The decision was made to better align with the company’s acquisition strategy that is heavily focused on growth in the global consumer electronics audio business under the Philips brand.

Cubase, because it does virtually everything well. Which is ironically maybe why you don’t need it. There is so much under the hood it can appear clunky and a like a dinosaur. However for media work I can’t think of a better solution.

Thanks Denis, that’s what I was thinking. I tried it years ago and did not like the interface but I imagine it’s improved over the years.

They do full 30 day demos, there will be a demo of the newest version 9.5 in a couple of weeks.I use Pro and it is expensive compared to others, they have been known to do cross grades from competing DAWs.

A question Denis. Does Melodyne integrate well with Cubase?

No problem with Melodyne, usual integration, record into it and record out. Doesn’t do the ARA integration like Studio One.

Melodyne sits inside Sonar with ARA. That would be a deal breaker for me. I use to use it the old way but ARA is far more convenient.

I hear you, the only other one I know that uses ARA is Studio One. Its certainly has issues on a Mac, not as many on a PC AFAIK.

Hopefully, I’ve been following the thread on their forum. They did say that current Platinum owners will get a license file, to get around Internet authorization, once their servers shut down.
