    Hey Folks,

I am about to have a track placed in a Netflix movie. This is my first for movie streaming.

Does anyone know how back end royalties work for Netflix?

So far Netflix has been abysmal… It’s essentially the same model as Pandora, “microdollars” that’ll buy you a cup of coffee. If you really crush it you might get a Peppermint Latte! o_O

Thanks for the good news 🙂 .

Maybe I should throw the contact in the garbage.

Yeah. I think my music streams get 1/34 of a cent per hit.

I have a track in a movie on Netflix. After 1.8 Million streams I got $54.00. This is bad news for us as more and more viewers turn their back on broadcast and embrace streaming…

In my experience, payments for original Netflix programs are similar to good cable placements and less than many network placements.

My BMI statements include many (2-3 pages) Netflix payments under $1 for streaming of shows that originated elsewhere, and much larger payments for streaming of very popular shows. I don’t know if that represents less royalties per view than other TV reruns.

I finally started getting backend from Netflix but wondered how many streams each show is getting. All my statement shows is a 1 under Count.

Yes, Amazon really sucks while Bezos gets richer and richer.

BTW that Netflix payout was for 3rd quarter 2019 but showed up on the recent statement for 4th quarter.

Most the times they’re behind. Hell, I still get cue sheets from shows that aired back in 2018 and the payments are 6-9 months behind that. Do any of you get upfront licensing for these Netflix shows? You should. I have on Gotham, Quantico, and West World.

    How does upfront licensing work?

You get paid licensing from your publisher. Nothing new. You should receive at least half of what your publisher is charging the client to license your track. Unless they do gratis licensing only. Which means you’ll only get paid by your PRO.
