Was just trying to sign up for XXX to upload some tracks and their contract specifies this. Is this common? How do composers get around it? Surely I can’t be expected to not be a a member of ASCAP for RF music even if I don’t register the cue?

Weird. Which then begs the question….why would anyone WANT to sign up to said library. BTW, is XXX some kind of porn music website? It’s hard to keep up with all the cryptic abbreviations.

I would not even question it, and be glad they warned you! Sounds like Bull-Shot!!

This is what happens when people start selling too many tickets to an event, and people are desperate to see the show. You get “Scalpers, Counterfeiters, Con-Artist, and Predators” that take advantage.

I keep saying there needs to be “A CLEARLY defined distinction between Consumer Usage, and Professional Usage!!” We need Laws & Legislation in place with guidelines, and statutory minimums!!

Thanks for moving the topic over, Art!

Looks like the library name got removed in the move over. It’s a well known royalty free library that I’ve seen lots of people mention in other forums for ways to make money making RF music. I went through the contract pretty thoroughly and was surprised that any PRO affiliation bars you from registering for the site.

Absolutely bananas. Not even clearing the tracks as royalty free — the composer also must say they’re without a PRO

It probably means the library only does direct licensing. I’m not sure why the composer can’t be a PRO member– I could see why the *tracks* can’t be registered with a PRO. Unless the library is based outside the US and laws are different where they are. I’ve run into some situations where some non-US PROs have restrictions against direct licensing. I would at least ask them to explain.
(Not saying direct licensing or this library is good… Just trying to help understand the situation)

I can’t give you advice, but I think this is quite uncommon, and I have rejected submitting to a library with similar demands last year. I will rather crawl in the gutter and have rats eat me before I accept an “offer” like that.

I agree that no composer should sign such a deal but I am curious what their explanation is, being it BS or not.
