Scoring: how to charge?

Sorry, I know this topic is on here somewhere but I can’t find it. I’ve been asked to consider doing the music for a documentary nature film to be released on DVD only. Not sure how long it is yet, maybe 30-45 mins? Also not sure if they want real-time scoring or just music tracks to use in it. I’m guessing they want the music exclusively.

So wondering how I should charge? By actual time it takes to compose (per hour) or by minute of music produced?

I’m also wondering if you can get music royalties from a DVD only release?
