It seems like it is becoming more common for Exclusve Libs to offer stem files to clients, so they can make their own tracks out of our stems.

The question is: How do we get paid when the final track is used? Does every composer involved, get the same pay per cue, usage, etc?

Has anybody had one of their stems used as part of an entire cue?

Would love to hear about how this worked out.

Yeah you still get paid royalties as if they used the full mix.

One of my exclusive libraries is pushing the offering of stems pretty hard. I’m still avoiding it where possible because my feelings as a creative are mixed. With that said – I understand that libraries are trying to maximize their appeal in a very crowded business.

I don’t think it’s a good idea and it also allows an opening for more missed placements, missed payments and overall confusion.
