Was contacted by the folks over at Cinephonix about their new music licensing solution TuneBud (http://tunebud.com). Worth looking at for those of you who want to license your music directly to clients and customers.

The good news you can upload up to 25 tracks, for free, with no ads and 250 tracks for free, with ads. Prices kick in at over 250 tracks but are very reasonable at $25, per month, for 1000 tracks.

Here’s a mock up of what a site would look like at http://musicfortvads.com/

I’ve been playing around with it and it’s very straight forward. On my wish list would be the facility for bulk uploads, storing music files elsewhere, instead of their server, and csv metadata import.

Full transparency, they are an advertiser.

    Check it out at http://tunebud.com!

This looks pretty interesting. I’m going to check it out further. The big question is will they be able to generate customers.

I’m going to check out TuneBud now, since LicenseQuote is going to shut down. It seems nice at first glance, but I noticed that there’s no possibility to upload a watermarked file for preview. This does bother me somwhat. Are you guys concerned at all (in general, not just in relation to TuneBud) to put out your non-watermarked music, in those libraries that don’t have such feature? How do you feel about that?

With a small initial investment and your own hosting it’s easy enough to either do it yourself or else find a company or someone to do the bulk of the labor for you in regards to designing it. (disclosure, I own a graphic design agency that does web design/hosting). This would save you money in the long run and keep your monthly payments lower and more consistent basically never requiring more per month for more songs. This also gives you better ownership and creates more equity and ROI. It also provides a better look even at the lower end of the price range.

In this instance its very easy to do bulk uploads, drag and drop hundreds of files and upload a simple spreadsheet, as well host the files on your own server, or rather, one in which you pay for the hosting.

The security is good allowing for secure files. Nothing is perfect at the lower end of the budget, ie certain compromises mostly cosmetic and functional often small and minor have to be made, but with https and a commerce gateway its as secure as anything and still a better option then higher monthlies and less control.

As with anything generating customers is on you, as it will be with these licensing specific template sites. When using your own site however every tool can be given within the website to increase the chances including strong search engine optimization structure and the details you need to make it happen.

As I mentioned on the LicenseQuote page:

I’ve been building another site, with WordPress, for our music, and will roll that out soon to replace LQ. I’ve been using WP eStore but there is also Woo Commerce. You can see it here, on the staging site, at http://anrmusic.wpengine.com/ if interested.

I use Amazon S3 to store all audio files. I do use a great hosting service https://wpengine.com. A little pricey but it’s also where I host MLR as I want the reliability. There are cheaper options for hosting.

All in all, a very inexpensive way to do it.

Let’s not let this thread get any more off track though. If you you want to discuss other options for building your own site, or other sites, please post here https://musiclibraryreport.com/music-services/build-music-library-website/.

Looks interesting. But as it was mentioned above, can they generate enough traffic the same way sites like Airbit/Beatstars does. Or is all traffic up to your own sources?

    Hi guscave,
Tune Bud is your own website and therefore it is up to the user to promote it. We provide a cost effective system to host searchable music, create playlists and sell licenses.

Our lite version at only $29 per year is proving a popular option for composers who want a portfolio website to use for pitching to libraries. We also have publisher grade solutions available for those who want to start a large production music library business.

    Many Thanks,

    Max Hixon,
