Sorry for being a noob at this.

    What is “backend” ?

My current thinking is that its money from repeated plays of something, but I’ve just read a thread on here where they were saying they got backend from RF.

So I’m thinking, how can I get backend from RF if the tracks aren’t registered on PRS and are truly royalty free ?

    Im confused.

Royalty free is a misnomer. What a customer, on a RF site, is doing is buying a license. On some sites the license is for only one project. On other sites it could be multiple projects, in perpetuity.

There are royalty payments, depending on the RF site’s policy towards PROs. I have received backend royalties for tracks licensed from an RF site, used for commercials.

    Thanks Art =)
so is it wise to just register everything with PRS then, regardless of whether its for RF, or non-ex ?

How will that then work if I want to put my music on an RF site under a psuedonym ?

There are a number of e-books out there including Art and Robin’s “Make Music? – Make Money!” that will answer many of your basic questions.
