I’ve noticed barely any activity here for the past month or two. What is everyone up to? Have a lot of composers stopped composing as a result of the AI boom? Or are a lot of the composers that were on this awesome site still composing but without any profit motive? Just trying to get a finger on the pulse of what people are doing with their time. I have slowed down tremendously over the past couple of years personally and write more as a hobby now and just enjoy the passive income from the many years of library writing.
@yzzman1. Yep, that would be me also.
@yzzman1 me too, I am composing but have not pitched anything new for many years now. I think that is because over the last 10 years the industry has not been as profitable as it once was, and the trajectory is downward – sped up no doubt by AI.
Although I do have a few projects of my own in the pipeline, which are more for fun, and if anything pops we will see….
At this point in “the game” I pretty-much did everything I wanted to do. My output is a LOT less “fast-food” tracks & songs; and more concentration on high-figure custom placements and commercials/branding..
ALSO, for those that are wondering about the current, and potential impact of AI music? If You’re working on music/IP that is mediocre, and/or anybody can do? You already know..
I’m still at it. Lots of changes, but there are still placements to be had.
I haven’t been pitching, and haven’t been on MLR regularly for years … but I intend on spending more time. I’m getting existing songs ready (mixing and mastering) and getting a Disco site ready for pitching.

I’m in the same camp as many of you. Wrote for about 30 years and I’m very amazed (and glad) that the placements have not slowed as much as I thought they would.
I’ve been recruiting ‘real’ people and writing songs in collaboration with vocalists – AI can replace us ‘behind the scenes’ guys but it can’t replace actual artists. Yet. That’s actually turning out to be a lot of fun.
In addition to that one of my main (and best paying) libraries seems to be sending me more briefs than ever – which I never say no to. I get the feeling they are going to try to get as much music synced as possible before we human composers are no longer required at all.
Well, if you love composing music, having fewer placements doesn’t slow things down for me. I work at my music every day. Unfortunately, I always have more tracks available than I can submit to libraries. That said, I haven’t noticed any slowdown in placements, but I’m sure AI will create problems in the near future.
I’ve always thought that the money requrired to constantly train these AI models, and support them will far outpace the royalties these companys will make or subscriptions they will have…. time will tell.
I just think that AI music companies will need to make a profit, and like anything AI… profit is hard to come by.
So I’m just enjoying composing and submitting….
