Dude I love your story – sounds like mine – I’ve had a tough year of it and just keep plugging away – I dont know if effects and all the latest do matter but I guess tbh to me they do but sheer talent is great – you sound passionate and full of pure intention – totally hear you on the whole want to be in the background and just make music. Beach view sounds amazing – I guess you don’t need to stress over latest plugs – I mean I do HEar lots of people who can’t afford it simply download 20k of gear online in one night alone – terrible hey that it’s possible so easily and to get turbo sound overnight. I find my back against the wall at mo that I must make some serious cash immediately – Ive given myself 6mths to be a good position – I know it’s just blips and blobs of music pasted together – I know for myself the worst person can be myself / the most critical etc. When I began I started with universal and they said they will take anything I do – Im so diff etc – then they rejected one my demos – the only one I didn’t put a limiter on nor compression ! I was so thrown by rejection I started making non exc then it’s just spiralled – I realise now that I had a serious issue with self esteem – I think I no longer have – I’ve seen both my parents diagnosed with cancer within a month of each other this year which really threw me big – both ok now – thank god – but guess totally relate to the whole low fi thing – I mean how mad that my laptop is worth 3-400 quid ! Got good Pmc speakers tho – on my crappy journey I have encourpoarted fitness – I now go 6-7 days a week to gym and work hard – really hard and it’s done so much for me ESP whilst parents ill and I was so down – really hoping it helps translate into self belief in rest of life workwise.  I love your story as it sounds a bit magical – I got serious eye strain at mo from to much working – using liquid tears as my eyes are so dry – hope u get magic luck and me also

I use a MacBook Pro that is now worth about £400 – gone down fro. £1500 in short space of five years – soon will be worth £100 I expect – I mean that’s low fi price wise – days were when £400 would have bought you a crappy analogue synth. It’s still more powerful than an Atari ste and all the racks of gear I once had. Do want a new one at some point though as they are so powerful now. disagree entirely with gear doesn’t matter and its what’s inside that counts – i think it matters a lot having a good limiter etc  on your tracks – having the latest synths v important – maybe not change it every week but good to check out every 2-3 years at least what breakthrough there has been in technology ie all the sonnox plugs are just so great – if everyone’s slamming loud tracks then its imp to do the same even if its not to taste-just my two pence on it and perhaps wrong but hey just sharing an opinion

well I was being polite – they are really good – always better to devalue your opinion of yourself though (constantly tell myself im rubbish as you know thats the only way to get better) – I think with a thousand I should be making 30k a year from them – im getting closer to the aim. Still believe you need 1-2 thousand tracks before you begin to see steady sales – thats just my opinion and experience so far as a noob as I know there are people with a hundred tracks doing really well.

thanks for the sense desireinspires – I know what you mean as some people do real well at having a consice cat – I’ve seen it work real well for some people – careful naming etc – I guess I have gone about it a diff way as a noob and just read from everyone you need a lot of tracks – so I stayed in and made a good 5 a day for a long time – Im jumping in with lots new guys today – just take the plunge – I’ve done my soul searching and now is action time. Good advice and I agree with what you say.

with exclusive i’ve got hardly anything – just a handful tho they do ok so do need to go back to doing that – ive got into the easier side of non exc and it earns ok but not huge amounts – the 1000 im tryin to spread out now – i mean after musicloops/revo/p5/audiosparx etc am looking at the others and it really becomes a stab in the dark – contacting ‘dannyboy’ or whoever and handing all that work just makes me feel really uncomfortable but at the same time i just feel god i have to know if it works – im really lost on what to do – reading about the libs on MLR now but so many have no comments

it is head doer when you want to add a thousand tracks to someone you know absolutely nothing of – when i began i wouldnt have minded adding 10-20 songs but giving a thousand knowing absoultely nothing of them is a bit of a stresser

yeah i know that but its trusting the small ones – i got some exc with universal and course you speak to them and its all cool – but trusting people who you know are a two person operation or whatever and they got some website and no one here is using them or posting any info on really feels like such a shot in the dark – i’ve googled some of them and theres just no info that way either – i just feel like a bit of a chump to send all my stuff to them knowing nothing – it feels very insecure – of course companies with a proven track record – musicloops revo audio sparx etc is diff but these non exs with no info are really doing my head in.

It is however sunny today and it does put you in a great mood – well sunny’ish – at least sky is blue – autumn is nice – a nice cold when theres a bright sky. I have to say as much as I hate the rain it really does make you work a lot – I do know a lot of people who get down during the rain – esp if you were say in an office and came out at 5pm and its dark – at least I guess we get to exercise creativity – gym is needed all through bad weather – really find it helps.

I’m just gonna have to ‘use’ the rain for its work ethic – man I look outta window and see its raining and think god I may as well carry on – when it was sunny for about a month I did nothing at all – I sat in the sun every day and got dizzy – Im not rich or succesful enough to make a leap to live the dream – but maybe one day – recon I could manage a couple months long holiday at mo tho and take a laptop and pretend I was doing the odd thing

What were you doing in Mexico ? Did you do this kind of work there ? Or just holidays ?

I have been fed up with this rain for ages, I feel like I could at least go away for two months and just have some happy time.  After chatting with my friend I’m thinking Thailand as I’ve never lived in a far off place and it’s pretty westernised in a way.

I know the reality is I wouldn’t get much work done, imagine waking up and thinking oh I will go visit the elephant sanctuary or oh I will go see Mai-Linn the Thai girl who want to get married to me after one cup of coffee or oh I will sit in the sun and watch amazing waves. Or … I will stay in on this sunny say and do really boring editing on a crappy track for 8 hrs today. I fear I would nothing.

But recon for two months I could get work done just a little. Have been feeling down with the solitary life of the music stuff.

I have alsowondered the same. I wonder with the cheaper living costs of somewhere like Thailand if anyone’s living the dream. I’m telling you, it’s raining heavily in the uk and it’s prob not going to stop for 6 mths, finding it really depressing. I met up with a friend and she has come back from 18mths of travelling , she had such great stories fromThailand and Vietnam and south America. Very inspiring. Lives passing me by and all I do is make music and I really am feeling a massive lack of purpose. V little meaning to endless days of being indoors in a music studio, the thought of somewhere beautiful and sunny really may be possible. Is anyone doing it ? My drawback would be 1. Making noise 2. Taking an ok pair of monitors. Which leaves me to think I would just have to do it on a pair of headphones. Possible but it’s gonna go downhill. But def ok for 1 or 2 months. Very down about uk weather here. Where are you thinking banjo man ? Let’s start a commune !:-)
