@Tim, great tip, thanks so much for sharing!
Art MunsonKeymasterAnd they ask for a copy of the “sync” contract… If you’re not sure where the track was purchased from, what do you do?
I didn’t include it. I think I just noted it was purchased from a royalty free site.
Art MunsonKeymasterHi guys
I’m having a strange, very sad but also profound holiday season. I’ve been reminded that health is the most important thing, the one and only thing that is absolutely necessary to achieve whatever you want to achieve in life. So, I sincerely wish all of you and your families a 2015 blessed with health, music, love and happiness.

Art MunsonKeymasterThat was nicely put, Mark. Art, Mark, Michael and so many others on this forum have been so generous and helpful with suggestions, insights and encouragement.
I wish everyone a happy and a merry. Okay, so who brought the cannolis? (often overheard at Italian family gatherings ๐

Art MunsonKeymasterMy first post (although I am a serial loiterer on MLR!) – Just want to thank you Art and all the contributors for continuing to share all that good advice – MLR is like a rock in the shifting sands of the Library Music world and I have found great advice and direction on here, so thank you all again. Wishing everyone a happy holiday and prosperous New Year, thanks, Wez

Art MunsonKeymasterI am officially weird. Yippee! ๐
Art MunsonKeymasterInteresting thread. How exactly does Competitrack work and how does one use it? I signed up a while back but am clueless.
You have to know the name of the commercial you are on or at least the company/brand. Once you know that you can search for it.
I have had a song used on a religious station for many months now, several times a month. Will that generate anything?
Don’t really know but I wouldn’t think very much.
Art MunsonKeymasterI guess if you license a piece 500 times it makes sense but….
I saw some decent stuff that has been there for years with little to no licensing. Not sure how accurate the numbers are or who the people are licensing some of these tracks so many times. Are there really 500 people that are going license the same track in a year or two? This market is new to me and it seems a bit odd.Welcome to Music Licensing!
Yes, it is a tough world out there. No rhyme or reason to it sometimes.
Art MunsonKeymasterThe site said “The money really adds up: We’ve monetized over 30 million videos to date,
and this year alone, we’ve paid out over $10 million to our rights holders!”So $10 million dollars divided by 30 million videos equals $0.33 per video. That is the average payout.
But of course some videos make a lot more than others. Many probably make nothing with a handful making a lion’s share of the money and some others bringing in smaller amounts.
Does this make any sense for composers to sign up? Not to me. Where is the money?
