Thanks Nan, will PM you.
Art MunsonKeymasterArt, I did see you listed for “DRAMEDY COMEDY-JP” on an episode of Hardcore Pawn that aired on 07-Jan-2014.
Thanks DI, nope no payment for that, I will follow up with BMI. There are 3 episodes from 2014Q1 that haven’t paid as well as some from 2013Q4.
@Advice, I know some of these are pennies but there a number of shows like this with a number of episodes. It’s the principle as much as anything else.Art MunsonKeymasterMaybe the cue sheets for the repeat plays of the show have not been filed. Contact the library and see if they have any info.
Tunesat is a decent service. But I think the info can lead people to believe that they are being cheated or will not be paid. Tunesat is not perfect and misses song plays that the PROs detect.
The PROs and the music libraries are probably the best people to talk to if there is a serious concern.
Art MunsonKeymasterI have cue sheets filed with ASCAP for these shows:
Fuse G-Thing
truTV Hardcore Pawn
truTV South Beach Tow
VH1 40 Most Shocking Hip Hop MomentsArt, I did see you listed for “DRAMEDY COMEDY-JP” on an episode of Hardcore Pawn that aired on 07-Jan-2014.
Art MunsonKeymasterThanks Stuart, did you get paid on these?

Art MunsonKeymasterHere’s the link to discuss missing and incorrect cue sheets.
Art MunsonKeymasterArt..just a thought..could there be a section here where we can ask if a cue sheet has shown up for anyone on a certain show..with Tunesat I have several placements that I’m waiting/wondering if a cue sheet is on it’s way (or isn’t)
Great idea Jay. I have the same issues too so I will set up a forum for that.
Art MunsonKeymasterI have had cue sheets filed over a year after the show has aired. I have had other cue sheets filed a few weeks after a program has aired. It all depends on the show. It is very frustrating sometimes waiting for a cue sheet to be filed, especially when you hear your music being used on TV. Hopefully production companies or whoever files the cue sheets will start to work faster!
Art MunsonKeymasterI am working on getting into the PMA libraries also.
Art MunsonKeymasterI’m curious to know if composers with tens or hundreds (not thousands) of tracks on LicenseQuote are having enough success there to justify their time setting it up, and the expense.
I host my files on Amazon S3 and just use LQ for the front end. Much more affordable.
Here is our free offering to composers who want to setup their own music licensing website.
Great software, easy to use and the price is right! At some point I will have a site set up with Mark’s software. Finding the time is my biggest problem.
Art MunsonKeymasterI’m just about to send out some music to various library companies. I recently learned that the same songs can be placed in different libraries, so long as the songs have different names.
That is incorrect.
You can submit the same music to different exclusive libraries for audition or demo purposes. But once you sign a contract with one exclusive library, you cannot place those songs anywhere else.
For non-exclusive deals, you can place the same songs in multiple libraries. But you should get clarification from each library if you are confused. Read the contracts carefully, ask questions, and possibly have a lawyer review the deal before signing.
Art MunsonKeymasterReally digging on our way
Art MunsonKeymasterMy experience. I’ve been playing this “game” for a 1 year and a half now. I started selling just the kind of music I like, the music that I’ve been making for 30 years and I know I’m good at (acoustic music). These tracks started selling very well right away, and they keep selling well, in many libraries. I call them my “core tracks”. No slow down there. After a few months, I decided I wanted to experiment with new genres. I wrote tracks in many different genres. Even the genres that usually sell well (corporate, pop etc). I thought the quality was good enough, and I still believe so (it took me a lot of effort and time to produce tracks in genres that I was less familiar with .. I am quite critical with myself usually) – or, at least, I know that the “technical” quality is no worse than my “core” tracks. But, guess what, these tracks do not sell as well. Not even close. No matter how good (I believe) they are. I’m starting to believe that I should stick with the genre I really feel is “my” music. The stuff I know. The stuff where I’m able to put my “soul” into it when writing. Maybe the fact that I LOVE the music I make is somehow “perceived” by the listeners. Maybe it’s not just a matter of technical quality, but also a matter of subtle things that we are able to put into our music depending on how we “feel” about it. Maybe potential buyers can “feel” it too, and that may influence their buying decisions. Or, maybe, it’s just me … I don’t know. Maybe the simple truth is that I’m not good enough in some genres. Who knows. But this is my experience. And if (big if …) there is any truth in what I’ve said, maybe a good advice is to make music you really, really like. Make music for yourself, not the buyers. They’ll buy it because of that, flooding or no flooding. Again, I could be totally wrong – but that’s my experience so far.
Sorry for my English folks, I’m not a mother tongue … -
