Hi, Andre – I listened to clips of each track that you have on soundcloud. One comment is I think you need to engage the listener earlier, within the first 5-10 seconds. I usually introduce a new instrument every couple bars at the beginning of a track then gradually add new elements throughout. Another comment is that your “suspense/action/horror” cue doesn’t really sound like “action” in my opinion. Definitely has a suspenseful and horror feel to an extent but to me an action cue would be faster or more intense. Make sure your titles fit the song as best as possible. As far as libraries, you really just need to do some research and find libraries that are placing the type of music you are producing. Try looking at the top selling tracks of many different libraries until you find something that is in your general style/genre.

By “getting in the pocket and making it greasy” do you mean that it should be tighter? Or maybe play behind the beat a little?

Great idea to get it professionally mixed!

I did not use a hi-pass filter and also did not quantize at all. I agree about the drums being low in volume. The problem was that I couldn’t bring the drums up at all without them clipping, so I brought the other instruments down, but it still wasn’t enough apparently.

So essentially i should scoop out the low frequencies of everything except drums and bass?

How do you create a “Groove quantization”?

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!

Thanks a lot for the feedback! Really good points. Do you have any suggestions of how to make a Midi drum track sound more real? I know it’ll never be as good as the real thing but I’m sure there have been countless placements of music that uses midi drums.

No I haven’t posted any of it for review yet. Where might I do that?
