Down about 10% from the last quarter (Q3_2022). Comparing year over year (Q4_2021 vs. Q4_2022) it’s flat but the overall trend continues i.e. US Cable/Network is decreasing whereas International seems to be increasing.

Overall not many 3-figure & above surprise payments that I’d see in year’s past. Just a lot of pennies, dollars & 10’s of dollars adding up.

I have seen a drop in Cable/Network but an increase in Internet Audio, Internet Visual as well as International Royalties have steadily increased the past year or so, so its helped to balance out. My best payouts seem to be for 1st quarter (which get paid in Aug now) but I have been comparing each payout to the same time prior year or even same time two years ago the +/- % has been nominal.

Thanks @boinkeee2000. I was thinking along those same lines too. I might try that.

Had the best quarter ever in 4 years of distributions. No major surprises on any particular placement just increased volume of them which is good. About 20% up over same qtr last year Q12018 and about 18% up overall for BMI earnings in 2019. I noticed my NCTA annual payout was slightly less than it was last year but certainly welcome.

Down a bit from the last statement but Q1 payouts seem to be higher with the annual NCTA bonus.

2017 2nd qtr is about the same payout as what my 2016 2nd qtr was same time last year but I actually had more placements in 2017 2nd qtr compared to 2016 2nd qtr.

I had 1 placement in 2016 2nd qtr statement that made up half the payout which was luck and was not there this time around. Even though I didn’t make more in the same qtr this year the number of placements did increase so hopefully that trend continues.

Great thread Alan! I remember being inspired when you first posted this 3 years ago. Despite how long it feels it takes for things to start churning each passing year seems to be going faster & faster. PRO payouts now feel like holidays lol. I just completed my 4th year at this. Hope it’s okay I share my results on this thread as well. Seems like a similar trajectory.

As of today I am at 210 tracks. About half are exclusive & non-exclusive. For the moment the non-exclusive tracks are out earning the exclusives but many of the exclusives were added this year so time will tell whether it pays off or not. I also have not been nearly as aggressive in the RF market as I have focused primarily on submitting to libraries for tv placements and that’s certainly reflected in my earnings but I will be giving more attention to RF this year in an effort to diversify.

    2014: $240 (RF), $0 (PRO)
    2015: $195 (RF), $10 (PRO)
    2016: $500 (RF), $410 (PRO)
    2017: $420 (RF), $500 (SYNC), $8,015 (PRO)

Looking forward to what year 5 has in store. I am cautiously optimistic on the percentage increase YOY since they say it is a roller coaster ride but so far I feel my investment is paying off.

    Happy New Year!

    Same here

Seems like BMI pays out for all BTN performances where cue sheets are filed. From cents to dollars per placement.

Pretty sure this was discussed recently in another thread. The Mark you mentioned composed a theme that BTN uses consistently. Due to the ASCAP survey he misses out on significant payouts whereas his wife who is with BMI get’s paid. Even with hitting the survey overall he mentioned he’s missed out on thousands over the years. Bummer….

This sounds similar to a deal a library I submit to pitched to me not too long ago. (They are mentioned on this board quite often btw). Basically Viacom is starting their own library and have selected this library to be one of their vendors.

Viacom is taking 100% of the publishing. The library is splitting the writer’s share with composers 50/50. For every track accepted there is a $125 consideration fee. The tracks will be exclusive, in perpetuity. I wouldn’t be surprised if other libraries we deal with will also become a vendor for this new Viacom library offering a similar deal.

I’ve seen that payout on other distributions but it’s nominal compared to the Sept Q1 payout which includes the annual. A nice windfall indeed. It made up about 15% of my total statement

Q1’17 is a personal best for me to date. This is my second full year of receiving statements. Going on 3 1/2 years into this music licensing journey. A lot of hard work coupled with a lot of luck I’m sure…

I’ve had placements on Big Ten Network which I believe is lower tier cable but a combination of one time airings during games and their daily shows specifically The B1G Show & BTN Live which repeat up to a dozen times or more a day cumulatively in a quarter its added up to hundreds of dollars.

BMI will also send you any amount over $2 I think was the minimum if you are setup for direct deposit. I remember my first statement was for $10 and the 2nd for $25. I got paid and it generated a statement. If you are not setup for direct deposit that’s where the $250 minimum comes into play

I believe Tennis Channel is cable @Dannyc. I wouldn’t say Cable pays just as good as big networks although I haven’t really had placements on major networks yet to compare. If the same placement/usage/airings had been on a major network I would think the payout would of been significantly higher.

It was pure luck. The usage of 02:43 of music compared to typical reality tv cues that are mostly :20-:50. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Since it aired 76 times I guess I benefited from the payout formula having approx. 200 minutes of music airing during the quarter just from that placement.
