A bit off the subject. Are the Instrumentalists members of the union and were they on or off the sheet? You can run into a mess if they are on the sheet regardless of any WFH agreement you have with them.

The answer is quite simple. #1: You must do at least a button ending which is usually as good as a stinger. Of 10,000 titles I have accepted I have never accepted a fade, and I never will. #2: If for any reason an editor wants a fade he will do that him/herself. No editor wants to listen to two versions of the same cue just to find which has a button. There is one issue you should remember, what you feel a cue needs does not trump what an editor wants. The editor holds the purse strings. So don’t swim upstream, do the proven thing.

I am a member of the PMA as well a a member of the PMA communications Committee. Attending a PMA event, especially the “meet-ups” is by far one very good way to meet the prime exclusives.

This whole subject is something we take very seriously and have discussed on a regular basis. I am actually writing an article for the PMA advising writers how to approach library owners. Also some very promising things are going on at the PMA that will greatly benefit writers.

One thing I might add to what has been discussed is that many of the sub libraries to collections such as APM or 5 Alarm (not saying all) may only consist of a few closely associated writers. Some may only be 4 or 5 total, so don’t let that dishearten you.

Another thing you may consider is that many of the top tier libraries do not have contact info publicly available is because they would be inundated with requests from writers of all levels. They simply do not have the time or resources available for that kind of commitment. Set your standards a bit lower to tier two.

Anything that comes easy in this industry typically isn’t worth a hoot (except an occasional lucky break). So hang in there Weston; if your music merits, it will pay off.

Say Hello at NAB, hope to see you there.
    Dave
