Thanks, Art. Look at that. A discussion on the internet that was cordial!
Off topic, but MLR is a great resource and I’m glad you’re keeping it going. My membership runs out soon and I hope to renew once I figure out some finances.December 7, 2025 at 7:57 am in reply to: Where do composers get the album covers they use for their library tracks? #47958WMProductionsParticipantI think it’s a slippery slope. My wife was a copywriter for close to 40 years and lost her job (mostly) to AI, as well as corporate greed.
I use AI like a super powered Google. Things like looking over contracts, helping diagnose the occasional glitch I have with my DAW, I tried to get a specific template for Kontact in Reaper, and it horrendously failed at that.
With day to day problems, it helped me diagnose issues with my fridge and car. In those cases, it was more about going to a tech with knowledge so I wouldn’t get screwed. So they still made $$, just not as much as they maybe could have. With any kind of art is where I draw the line, so to speak. I do freelance work for an ad agency and I worry that I may be replaced. I also have a great relationship with their video team, and I’m sure they must be concerned too. Except these people are much younger than me with little kids and families to support. I’m kind of over that age hump where it probably won’t affect me as much.
I’m not trying to argue or flex any kind of integrity or altruism, but I do think this is a problem for humanity.
Personally, these tech bro billionaires hoarding money sicken me to the core.December 6, 2025 at 2:55 pm in reply to: Where do composers get the album covers they use for their library tracks? #47955WMProductionsParticipantVisual artists should be our closest allies and I think we should support each other when it comes to AI ruining our livelihoods. In fact, I’m seeing way more AI generated ‘art’ all over SM these days.
Personally, I’m sick of it and I’d never give a dime to any of these billionaire tech bros to help me ‘make art’.December 6, 2025 at 2:39 pm in reply to: Where do composers get the album covers they use for their library tracks? #47953WMProductionsParticipantThe last two publishers I signed with stipulated that AI art was not allowed. (I provided artwork for one library, the other library provided their own artist for the other album.)
If we’re gonna complain about AI killing our industry, it sounds hypocritical that we’re okay with doing that to visual artists. -
