New Library From Mark Petrie

I just received an e-mail from Mark Petrie that he has finally completed his music library, launched his website and is looking for music, preferably exclusive. Mark is a long time lurker and contributor (under another name) on MLR as well as a terrific composer with many impressive credits. Knowing Mark I imagine this will be a great library to get accepted into! You can read all about it here.

Ocean Butterflies

I just listed Ocean Butterflies after receiving a nice e-mail from Hua Chang Lee. They are one of the largest independent publishers in Asia and have expanded outside of Chinese pop music and into production music. Check it out here for all the info.

What’s fair about “Fair Use”?

Robin had an idea for a post about “Fair Use” in the copyright law. There are many ways that people do not want to pay for the music that we create and this is one of them. Some of the fair use exceptions make sense but the definition gets stretched beyond it’s original intent. I do take exception to “news reporting”. It’s a for profit activity so how do they get a free pass?

New TuneSat Services

I received an e-mail yesterday from TuneSat regarding two new services they are offering. One is the ability to detect usage of your music across the web as well as TV. The other is a service to help you collect monies due on any infringements you find. The service will be on a contingency basis. In other words, no money out of your pocket unless they collect. Simply amazing where technology is taking us!

New site design

[Update: As you can see I have updated MLR to the new theme. I’m pretty happy with it but welcome continuing feedback. Thanks to all that have done so!]

I’ve been fooling around with a new site design for MLR. I’m kind of bored with the old one and it has some problems with functionality. I’m looking for better readability, less reliance on plugins but more importantly, faster loading times. Studies show that users leave a site if it hasn’t loaded in 4 seconds. Load time should be at least 90% as measured by Google Page Speed and Yahoo YSlow.

So please check out http://mlrtest.com and let me know what you think! You can also leave test comments but they will be erased. Load time is slow there as I haven’t optimized that site.

Please leave any feedback here and thanks!
