Seeding the music libraries.

Over the last few years I, probably like most, have gotten overwhelmed with uploading music to the various libraries as well as tagging and writing descriptions for each piece. Every library’s requirements and procedures are different which only adds to an already time consuming process.

Initially the tendency was to get as much music out in the marketplace, to as many libraries as possible. It did get a bit crazy though and the end result would be that many times it wouldn’t get done. I finally came up with a routine that makes it all much less frantic.

I now only work with 5 or 6 libraries so I assign each one to a day of the week and only upload one song, per week, to each library. That gives me plenty of time to focus on that one piece of music and give it my best effort as it pertains to each library’s requirements. A much more relaxed way to do it, at least for me. I feel I have a few more years left in me so I’m in no rush and it leaves me plenty of time to write and have a life!

How about you? What’s your routine?

Comment Editing Is Back!

Unintended consequences, argh! In an effort to constantly increase the speed of MLR something is always breaking. In the latest case it was comment editing. I took away some of the speed and comment editing now works. Yes, it’s true. Speed Kills!

Getting What You Want

I’ve been thinking about this post for a very long time. I particularly wanted to pass this along to those who are younger and might find value in these concepts.

It has to do with the power we all have within us, tapping into that power, and achieving what we want out of life. I have been using these universal truths for decades to help manifest goals that have been important to me. It’s helped with my health (you need good health before anything!), career, financial security and finding my soul mate.

BMI payday today

Who said Friday the 13th was unlucky! BMI royalties out today and had a decent payout. Still not a living wage but better than last quarter. Jingle Punks still rockin’ with some good major network placements as well as Scorekeepers. Also picked up a few Kardahsian placements from one of my other deals.

How about you? Here’s hoping for some fat payouts for all!

Key man clause

Brian Curtin, composer and MLR member, came by the other day to have lunch and we were discussing the music library business (what else!). We were discussing the fact that many of the recent music libraries that have sprung up are a one person operation or is dependent on one person to drive the company. So the question becomes what happens to the music if that person leaves the company, dies (God forbid), disappears, or just flakes? My thought was that back in the day I had a few contracts that had a “key man” clause. It basically states that if a particular person leaves the company, for whatever reason, the contract is null and void.

Anyone have such a clause in a contract? Curious.
