Hi there,
Again the competitrack numerator question.
First, very happy cause I got a library music sync’ in a commercial, since 1st june it seems to have been aired 2500 times already. crazy.
I got on numerator website with an account and I noticed that this commercial was actually aired in 2 versions (15s and 30s)
I can see for the 15s that there is “1255 occurences” and “1235 occurences” for the 30s.Two questions :
1) do occurences mean numbers of airings ? I guess so.
2) I can see the number of occurences are different for the 15s and the 30s. does that mean that there is 1255 airings for the 15s version and 1235 airings for the 30s version? Sorry for the dumb question, but numerator interface isnt that clear …
Thx

2. I’ve always read them as separate airings for each commercial.June 8, 2020 at 4:15 am #35118uniqueplaceParticipantThanks Art Muson.
Actually now it’s 1795 airings for the 15s and 1845 for the 30s airing.
My vericast systems tells me the adds has been aired 1345 times but I only monitor the 30s version and not all US channels, but here’s a little summary of my airings

The ad is spread all the day and night so I can’t be really specific about prime time airing, daytime, etc… The thing I know is it seems on FOX/ NBC / CBS it’s never aired prime time but more around 11 pm or daytime.
June 8, 2020 at 1:28 pm #35123Michael NickolasParticipantI don’t know about the money, but check out this thread:
Art has a commercial with like 14,000 airings and no pay yet, it appears.June 8, 2020 at 1:34 pm #35124uniqueplaceParticipantOh… ok
I knew it was going to be difficult to get any money from US commercial. But here it’s a big burger brand so I’m not gonna let the money out. I actually didn’t know about the numerator ad code to pass to ASCAP, my pro (European pro) gently gave me a login to numerator and I could get the ad code, so if my pro works good I should get moneys. Also I got some AD code for other commercials that I had in the past 3 years. Turns out my pro can get money up to 3 years in the past.
On behalf of all composers, i’m not going to let that money disappear in the meanders of Ascap computers.
June 13, 2020 at 3:55 am #35140uniqueplaceParticipantHI there, upping again for another questions
how much does FOX pay per 30s commercial around 10 pm PST ?
does fox sports pay also ?
does nbc news sport pay ?is CBS a national network ? how much does it pay for a 30s commercial ?
thx for the numbers guys.
June 13, 2020 at 6:26 am #35141Art MunsonKeymasterThey all pay on commercials. BMI doesn’t give breakdowns on time of day or length. The big catch to all of this is that Competitrack does not track healthcare commercials. At this point no pay for those types from BMI. As I mentioned in another thread, we have a healthcare commercial with around 15,000 airings and not being tracked. BMI says they will “work something out” but we will see.
June 13, 2020 at 2:34 pm #35143uniqueplaceParticipantI sympathize Art Munson. Don’t really understand the difference between a healthcare and a food brand (my case) … it’s so silly.
Thanks for answering, but also my question could be roughly, : how much minimum does a 30scommercial pay on a cable network ? and how much does it pay on average on a national one ?
June 13, 2020 at 8:41 pm #35144Music1234ParticipantHi Unique Place, please post the link to the ad using your track and maybe we can help you. It can take from 6 to 24 months to be paid performance royalties depending on the PRO you are affiliated with. If you have a placement in a tv spot that began to air June 1, 2020. you most likely will not collect any performance royalties until January 2021 the earliest. If you are a member of a non American PRO, it may take 1 to 2 years to collect. Writing music for media is a business based on endurance and extreme patience. We are not financially awarded “immediately” in this business. We have to be willing to wait a long, long time before our performance royalties arrive.
June 14, 2020 at 1:17 am #35145uniqueplaceParticipantThanks Music1234
I actually know how all this works. I just eventually wanted a rough figure of how much I can expect to get on average on a national network and on a cable network. See if it really was worth the time to get the performance royalties. Like if it’s 1000 dollars for 2000 airing then not worth it. With 2000 airing in my country it’s like 10000 dollars you know …
I would prefer not to post the AD as that would mean revealing the brand and subsequently the ADcode to lurkers and I don’t really trust American PRO system : someone could take the adcode and reclaims the performances.. a bit paranoid certainly.
June 14, 2020 at 6:48 am #35146Art MunsonKeymasterLike if it’s 1000 dollars for 2000 airing then not worth it.
That’s just about what it is, for cable, based on our current statement. If you have the publishing (which we did) you would double that.
June 15, 2020 at 1:02 am #35157uniqueplaceParticipantthanks Art.
Well, thats so little…
Sometimes, i’m wondering , how are you supposed to make a living with library music on USA channels? You need to have 1 000 000 airings per year ?
this has to change, seriously. -
