I’ve been debating this for years. My studio creates multiple genres of music, as I’m sure a lot of you do as well. I fear that all these differing styles have no identity when attached to such a generic artist name like ” _____ Studios”. I have my own artist name, but all else has been licensed under my production studios name. BUT, many agencies are looking for “artists” to push vs production houses. I know many are wanting specialists in a genre vs a jack of all trades. I can see where legitimacy is questioned, or at least perception skewed when the same “artist” does ambient scoring, game atmospheres, rock instrumentals, funk and Hip-Hop. What are the downsides of creating separate artist identities for each genre?

I’ve thought about it when first starting years ago but decided against it. In that time we have licensed and placed music in numerous styles. I think it might be analogous to libraries specializing in one style. That seldom happens except for trailer music, at least that I am aware of. Keeping track of numerous artist’s name might complicate your workload.

    Just my opinion though.
