Embedding metadata – what do you do?

I haven’t seen anything recent regarding this topic.

I assume that the libraries don’t or can’t read the metadata in my wav files (and it will not translate over when the file gets converted by the library), but I feel better knowing that I sent it out with some information about what it is and who it came from….

A couple of questions for the community out there:

1. I use ProTools WorkSpace to embed metadata (in the File Comment field), but I’ve noticed that the metadata doesn’t necessarily show up in other music software (WaveLab, iTunes). Is there “universal” or “standard” metadata reading/writing software?

2. What software do you use to enter metadata?

3. What type of data do you include? I put my name, the name of the song, the audio file name, my ph#, email, BMI #?

4. Is embedding metadata something we should even do? And why?

I am very interested in this as well.
I didn’t do anything on it up until now but definitively plan to do something. I am however worried that that embedding music details, Bwav or other sort of metadata into wav files could somehow mess with the systems that music editors use.

bwf (broadcast wav files) files are meant to have metadata (that’s what is different than aiff or the original incarnation of wav files), so it will not mess with any software that uses wav files.
