I know it doesn’t get a lot of love for guys who are really into the high end orchestral string markets, but asking if anyone has had much success placing music using this string library. I see their site has mentioned GPO being used on CSI, A Mercedes Benz commercial. Or should I go with another choice, many of which I am aware of. Not really looking to write orchestral score type of music, but more for , say, TV drama sorts of underscore, light strings for commercial pieces, pop sort of stuff. Or should I really be looking at stronger libraries?

Yes, people do get placements using these instruments.
But…you should buy the best sound that you can afford. It’s a highly competitive business.Beware of claims regarding being used on CSI or in a Mercedes Benz commercial. You don’t know when those samples were used. It may have been at a time when there wasn’t such disparity in quality between sample libraries. And…you don’t know how the samples were used. It may have been just as a layer with other samples to provide attack or to fatten things up.
It sounds like you want a package that can do a lot of “good enough” things. Take a look at NI’s Komplete. It covers a lot of bases, including horns strings synths, keys, drums etc….enough to keep you busy writing for a long time.
Good luck.

They run in Kontakt and are much more efficient than Hollywood Brass, which I tried using but it gives my computer a meltdown, no matter how much ram I throw at it.
To throw my $0.02 in about live recording on the other thread, I think live players are usually a huge asset to a recording. But… for epic or even reality cues, that big horn ensemble sound you’re after is next to impossible without hiring 8+ horns.

+1 if you’re only talking about brass. I have CB core and PRO they are great for orchestral cues.
If you’re looking for more nimble “pop” brass, try Broadway Lites, for a better sound than NI Session Horns. Caveat: Broadway Lites takes more work with articulations and reverb etc. It’s not as “out of box” ready as Session Horns. If you really want your brass to sound real try using a breath controller.
