German TV Ad Royalties – any experience?

Hi,

does anybody have experience with collecting royalties for music placed in a german TV ad?

This is my issue: I had a phone call with german GEMA today, and they told me that for receiving royalties for TV ads (as a GEMA member), it is obligatory to fill out a special form and have it signed by the ad production company.

Now the question is, if you are member of any other PRO than the german GEMA, will there be any issues about that? Because I’m about to join the dutch BUMA/STEMRA.

You can notify Buma of the usage (via your online account or e-mail) and they will communicate this to Gema.

yes I know, my question is only about the special case of TV ads, because GEMA might require a form called “Anmeldung für audiovisuelle Werbespots einschließlich Werbetrenner und Trailer“.
Did you have music in a TV ad broadcasted in Germany in the past?

No, not that I know of. But maybe it’s best if you would e-mail them at info @ bumastemra.nl they answer pretty quickly and are quite helpful!
