I’ve been talking to a company about selling them some original songs by a group I was in back in the ’70’s. Most of them are studio tracks. They pay a few hundred dollars up front for each song and then they own them. They split the royalties 50/50 for the ones that they sell. The contract is “forever”, no time limit. Is this a good deal? Are there better ones out there?
i don’t think it is. in the buy-out world, i typically get $75-150 for original music, even with vocals. this is horrible. your deal is also horrible but compounded by the fact that you’ve had these songs for so long. i would keep them and make them available on a licensing site. you’d make the few hundred dollars up eventually and more, and be able to retain your ownership of your music.
