A friend of a friend is a music sup who has worked on a few decent-sized cable shows. I have not yet met this friend of a friend, but am going to ask my friend for an introduction, in the hopes of getting some music placed here and there on some cable shows. This may not turn into anything, but if it does, what to expect? I don’t expect any upfront money, but in terms of the performance royalties, am I self publishing, in which case I get the pub and the writers… or should I expect the music sup to take the pub? No, I am not giving up the writers! 🙂 For any experience sharing, I would be grateful. Thanks!

I wouldn’t expect the music sup to ask for the publishing share but it might be a deal breaker. I would make it non-exclusive and re-title the music so they only get the publishing royalties on those titles.

Current trend is production company gets the retitled publishing, and supervisor gets 40-50% of the writers. Just the way things are rolling these days.
