Local business wants a pre-existing track I wrote for exclusive use in perpetuity. Buyout but I keep my writer’s share.
If they offer 18k, should I take the money and run? Ask for 20?
This is a 30-second tv spot for California use. What happens if they want to take it national? Should I throw in a clause about being paid extra if they do go national?

    Hey Candy
Question: Do you even know the ballpark $ they might offer? Budgets vary widely. Do you have reason to suspect it will be anywhere near $18K?

    Hi, Candy,

Five and Six figure upfront sync fees are typical for great tracks made for multimedia outlets and others. But, the question relies on whether or not you are registered with PRO services and as a publisher as well to maintain the collection of royalties across the board so you are not missing out on money due to you.
    Ask yourself these questions:
•Should it be a non exclusive (meaning you can have the same opportunities for other licensing deals)?
    • will I be able to collect mechanical royalties without being or having a publisher?
. Who will be the administrator(s) for a one stop shop?
    • Is your works registered and copyrighted?
There are several ways to collect and the most important, is to make sure you are setting yourself up to collect all earnings.

Don’t just second guess your talent because if they are offering that kind of money, that means you have what it takes to make your music career a success.

Just make sure you are able to collect from all avenues and you will do great!

    Wishing you all the best,

    Cheer’s

    Roylee
