Is someone here able to explain the BBC blanket deal with PRS? I was speaking to an independent producer recently who tells me her independent production company can use any music it likes with no fees on BBC work. This seems a bit odd. Presumably PRS track usage and pay the composers pro rata, or is it more hit and miss than this? It seems surprising that it applies to independents.

The question arises partly because I always thought AN was important for BBC work, but a blanket deal with PRS seems to change this relationship.
