@music1234 your inputs are a blessing!
Congratulations that sounds like an interesting life journey for you, I’m very happy to hear that ?
I wish you both only the best!
Haha yeah the musicians are amazing there, I can’t wait to get back as well, probably to the Taragalte festival, Inchallah 😉
Alright, so we take over the publishing and handle the payouts without the artists even being registered, I didn’t knew that.
My business partner is with ASCAP, I’m with PRS so let’s see what we will do.
I have another – ethical – question:
Many many artists still write me that they want a record but don’t have money.
Is it ethical from my side to make the production for “free” but make a deal to share Publishing/Master rights under terms discussed above?
I understand if it’s a non-exclusive deal, they can still release their LP on Spotify etc. but when it’s an exclusive deal, the LP can be only used/released by the “owner” right?
Sorry for this basic questions, I already bought another book and prepared a question list for Business Partner/Labels
Thank you and Have a wonderful day
Ady_HTRMSParticipantWow! You got this, thank you, this makes sense – why going low if there could be way more for the artists and us included for this unique service.
That’s what I was looking for, a realistic insider view 🙂 much appreciated!
I have already a catalogue from my 2 years we spent in Morocco and a musicians team that – together – covers almost every African musical style.
The current recordings we did are made as a 50:50 deal for any income between us – I traveled with equipment and recorded for 2 years providing artists support during covid time and keeping the music up.
I tried to hook them up with PROs but they are not willing to do it yet as there is nothing to gain atm – but I make a document ready for every artist with every step they have to take to become part of the team and I make it a requirement to work together
Many of the artists luckily have managers as well that are on top of things what is good for organisation, otherwise – as much as I love the Musicians – I would wait ages for recordings ?
They – or their families – have international bank accounts so there is always a way to send money
I think this are all infos I need, now it’s time to call my business partner and a lawyer to discuss further details to go into negotiation ?
Massive thank you!
Ady_HTRMSParticipantThank you so much, that’s the kind of information I was looking for.
So maybe rather a 50:50 between artists and us?
Plus I would negotiate upfront fee’s for the artists and i do the productions usually from my pocket (composing, recording, mixing, mastering, paperwork, travels etc.)
Thx for your input!
Ady_HTRMSParticipantThank you for the quick reply, makes sense! This helps a lot already!
I think I put all cards on the table and inform both companies about the situation to see what they think about.
If one doesn’t agree, I just go for the best offer
