ChuckMottParticipant
Any opinions on the quick drop downs to make it fit (ring out endings that fade quickly to nothing)…And thanks for the answer re: precision of the edits.
ChuckMottParticipantPosted my response apparently as Michael was posting his….
ChuckMottParticipantOnly a few ways to do it, but wondering what the best approach is? 1.) Quantize all including your audio to make it a smooth transition 2.) DOn’t sweat the extra sometime 2 to 4 seconds (i.e. 34 to 1:04) 3.) If it is a matter of your audio ringing out, make the fade down as abrupt as you need to to make it fit (I’ve heard it in the context of fitting this to video, this doesn’t matter so much to film editors, but don’t quote me). I’ve found that edits seem to be easier to create if you keep the temp at multiples of, say 30 secs (60 BPM, 90, 120)……seems to make edits more consistent anyway. Any other ideas or if there is a standard approach I would love to hear it.
ChuckMottParticipantI was using private to listen to my tracks in my car and thought it worked inconsistent at least playing them from my mobile phone. No reason. I can think of to post private to have libraries listen.
ChuckMottParticipantGood practice..via AS Email : We usually do composer lookups to correct the info before we start trying to register tracks…it saves a lot of grief and rejected registrations. BTW also sold another track here yesterday :).
ChuckMottParticipantAnd they may very well have been looking under chuck mott……
ChuckMottParticipantIt is. The library said they looked under Charles Mott, and didn’t find it that way. Did you? I sent e-mails to the libraries I’m involved with and sent them the info anyway and let them know the correct # and my composer name as listed. And yes, the problem was I had set this up some time ago when I started and never gave 2 thoughts to it until a library contacted me. Regardless, grateful to the library for pointing it out, and nice to see one that seems to want to register my tracks as soon as they get them.
ChuckMottParticipantI use theirs. BUT have sold a couple stingers lately and discovered that AS sells them at $5. On another RF I have sold 2 for $10 each. That said I usually go with their pricing, but i would monitor it.
ChuckMottParticipantThanks, Art , gonna try them for select pieces.
ChuckMottParticipantI understand Michael Thank you .
ChuckMottParticipantGuess I am trying also to differentiate between the two: obviuosly, certain types of cues are geared specifically towards TV, others geared towards RF. Others are a grey area. Likely th best education is listening, going into various sites and listening to the type of stuff that is specifically for broad cast. I can go into a higher , say one with a top 50 list, listen and say that a lot of those could go either way. So maybe for those of us that are also curious, maybe suggestions for sites where you can readily access the music (I think CM lets you do that, for example, where JP does not).
ChuckMottParticipantThanks, sorry. In general in the last couple of years, people seem to have good track records so it seems with Jingle Punks, Crucial Music, Scorekeepers. I happen to like Audiosparx but don’t know how they do with tv placements. But I particularly like the way they break down the data, show you which tracks get the most plays, etc. Which may or may not point you in whichever direction you want to go with your tracks. I suggested elsewhere that potentially I see as part of the problem is that many composers know this, and these sites seem to be getting deluged with tracks, getting creative with how to screen composers out and still get great quality stuff ( We’re pushing the exclusive option these days!) . As I submit to libraries what I think I hear as a trend right now is the need for more electronic stuff – synthpop, dance, recently got a brief for electroacoustic – and am considering experimenting more in that direction.
ChuckMottParticipantO.K. Was wondering though if people saw stuff trending one way or another. Doesn’t seem to be the case.
ChuckMottParticipantIf you are unsure what the acronyms I’ve posted stand for, you can message me on soundcloud. Art I believe doesn’t like us mentioning libraries by name here, but I’d be happy to tell you. I may not be the most experienced guy here, but have spent hours scouring the forums here for answers to the same sorts of questions you have.
ChuckMottParticipantTracks sound really good actually, if my opinion means anything you have a gift for this. I think you could be charging more (say I dunno around $40) , see more money and still experience the same volume of sales…..
