When I listen to the old mixes I think to myself, โ€œWhat was I thinking!โ€.

Too true !!!!!! Its a continual learning process of refining certain skills.

Please nobody take it from my reply that anyone should do ukulele tracks ad infinutum LOL. Do what you do best, try different things, enjoy yourself. Like every library composer I know, I have had the most unexpected tracks get used and conversely the ones I thought were sure fire sellers tank.

    Hi Kris

I personally never critique library music as its totally subjective, IMO library music is secondary to the product it is placed with, so many different types and styles potentially can work.I really don’t like the ukelele ( I seriously don’t !!!!) but its become a part of the library music repertoire , and if the client wants it they get it. On the other end of the scale, trailer music has its own cliches that clients want.

If music is licensed, its successful , if it isn’t, then no matter how brilliant anyone thinks it is , it has failed in the library music field.

If the question is will my music sell in library A,B or C then simply listen to the Top 20 or so tracks and see if your tracks are in that vein.

Sorry if its a vague answer.

Yup magic AB sits on my master bus too, also the Nugen Visualiser which is really good for checking things.

TT Dynamic Range meter is I think not free anymore, and still 32 bit possibly ?

If you can get it go for it , if not the free Voxengo Span gives you Phase/RMS and spectrum analysis, Ksystem etc.

This doesn’t sound like composing on the fly but assembling on the fly. Premade loops in various genres which can intelligently assembled into certain lengths. Clever, but I wonder how unique ? How quickly does YT spot a copyright, it seems to be pretty quick, therefor a 2 sec loop used in 2 separate compositions would be flagged very quickly no ?

I think this guy does online courses. I just watch his reviews but he does know what he is doing and has a grounding in “old school recording”. It may not be be totally relevant today but lets not forget modern DAWs are built around the mixing desk/inserts/bus/ master fader paradigm.

    Freebies

Run by a member here Emmett Cooke, sign up to the site . They have crazy one off deals, mainly on sample libraries. The freebies are excellent.

    A fairly extensive updated list.

I picked up a Heavyocity library at a big discount already.

Just to echo that , I have a track that was sold on ML that brings 1-2k a year in PRO. Never sold on any other site. Unpredictable business.

As to pricing surely thats library dependant, I would look at the average price and go with that, I am not so sure that buyers do a lot of searching different sites for the best deal.

The legality of it depends on the law in the territory it was based in. I assume the US, is this State dependant ? IDK

My guess is that they have a sub publisher who gets 20% and they are trying to hold on to their 50 %. Pretty lame considering, if that is the case they are doing nothing abroad. However, how big is the company? is it US based ? all factors. I have never seen this btw

I would hope he has the decency to pay out what is owed, probably unlikely. We shall see.
