I just got off the phone with my contact at BMI and the word is that last week they finalized their settlement with the Scripps Networks. For those of you who don’t know, Scripps has not been paying performance royalties but that is about to change. BMI is collecting cue sheets and music use documents to pay everyone, payment is retroactive. If you have had music running on Scripps then you should be letting BMI know the shows you have been on even though, theoretically, they will pick them up from the cue sheets and other docs.
My contact said they should start distributing funds 3rd (but most likely) 4th quarter this year (2010). I’m not the official word for BMI just passing on the info from my source. It’s best to contact your BMI rep.
So what’s the latest on this? Is Scripps now paying everyone here consistently? I’m about to send tracks to a library supplying music for several of their shows. I was paid for music used on the Travel Channel last quarter so assuming all is good.
okay, thank u
What the update on this Art?
BMI is paying now for Scripps
Haven’t checked on it recently as it turned out that, in my particular instance, all music was direct licensed.
Just wondering, has anyone gotten royalties payment for Scripps TV usages yet?
Not gonna happen AFAIK. Scripps only direct licenses. There may be exceptions but I haven’t heard of them.
Thanks Art. I assume we won’t get compensated for this by our publisher/publishers. That’s sad.

Scorekeepers actually pays a bit each year to compensate. This past January I think mine was $60.
Hey Art,
Do you have an update on the Scripps/BMI situation?
I’d like to know for future reference.
Thanks,
Michael
According to my contact at BMI they start paying in June. I also was forwarded an e-mail from the Scripps person that is the liason with BMI so it looks like it’s real. Well, at least for this time:)
Are they going to be paying to ASCAP too?
I can confirm that BMI will pay and ASCAP will not on the Scripps cues I’m involved with.
Thanks Art. I haven’t been in contact with my rep at BMI for a very long time. Its definitely nice to hear that their doing whatever they can to insure proper payments to the artists in their service.
