Also, I completely forgot about this..

    https://splice.com/UPM/universal-production-music-producer-challenge

If Universal Production Music is doing a contest where you can use Splice Loops/Samples; and the winner will be included in their Library/Catalog..

Then there were also some instances of sample packs appearing that included loops ripped straight from Heavyocity’s Damage and other sample packs!

I’m not using Splice myself but I thought that some people on here might want to know about this.

I have a question about this, and I haven’t seen any mention of this..

Are the Items/Loops that are for sale in Splice “Electronically Marked, or Fingerprinted?”

Seems that would be a major factor to this..

A quick read of the decision: basically, the jury found that “Dark Horse” had similar elements that they heard in “Joyful Noise.” They listed a few examples like the sound of the 808 kick, the tempo and the similarity of the shape/arc of the melody. So the good news is, unless something changes this looks like a new revenue stream for litigious songwriters.

Call me “Woke.lol” but, this “REEKS” of something “totally else” going on. I mean, just the publicity, and media coverage alone is worth WAY more than they could “potentially/possibly” pay out..

This is B.S!! My Gut tells me there is “A WHOLE other Agenda”.

They do sound pretty close, lined up next to each other.
Also the ‘you know what it is’ vocal that they both have in the intro, is hardly a coincidence.

There simply has to be another motive behind this. To even say that Finger-snaps (A non melody/non musical Item) is similar, means that we would have to “Really Stretch” to find anything of similarity..

Yes, Trap, Hip Hop, and Trailer are WAY Over-Saturated. I would say “Ride out The Storm, and Team Up with a Few People”
Do some co-composing where You are providing the Trailer/Orchestral’s, and they supply the other ingredients.

I do like the thought of having more people bringing new ideas to the table though.

You answered the “Key Element” in Collaboration.
Yes, Collabs can be Educational, and quite beneficial as well. In addition to being able to cover “more Ground” in terms of getting into Libraries/Catalog. I have also found this to be a successful way to break new composers/writers in Top-Tier Libraries.

Most libraries covers just about every style known to man.
Sure, there’s trailer libraries and some boutique libraries have only music of a certain theme (drama and documentaries for example), but most libraries that have 50+ albums seems to cover most things.

I’ve certainly never seen a library that specialises in happy tropical ukulele. I’ve seen many that covers that style though.

I just “Searched Ukulele Production Music” and got OVER 5,000,000 results..

Any advice from other users also welcome!

Just my take. The “Tone” of The Piano is not very pleasing to me. I would go with something that “has a Richer, and Warmer Tone.

Also, you want something to go under the Piano to give it “that something else, and possibly a bit of movement”. Not pushing a product, but I would go with Omnisphere.

What about SESAC? From what I know, it’s the only PRO that is considering Tunesat detections…

Unless something has changed. SESAC is not open for public registration..

My question was about this: is moving to ASCAP or BMI a mandatory move in 2019 to take in order to proceed in this career and to be more “attractive” to big big libraries?

From, what I have seen, it is not “Mandatory”. I have been seeing some great results from PRS, APRA, SOCAN, and SACEM.

I personally though have heard some bad stories/stuff about PRO’s in Denmark, Italy, Czech Republic/Croatia, and a few others..

Hey guys, I’m planning on submitting to some more exclusive libraries soon. I was wondering if it is better to submit several of the same style, or a group of different styles to show versatility.

Go with “Your Wheelhouse!!” Right now, to get onboard with the top companies “You’re gonna have to FLOOR them, or have a great Rep.”

You will always be able to submit more variety once you are in, and working.

To be honest, “in TV Libraries” there is simply no market for it right now.

We are in a time (Sad) where Gadgetry, Tricks, and Sound Design have taken over, and real music is at one of its LOWEST Places ever.

I have had Presidents/Execs of Libraries, and Library Owners send me “very heartfelt emails” telling me they loved my “Jazzy” pieces, but there is simply no market for it. They as well said they would rather not even attempt tying up the tracks, and them not selling.

I would say, keep writing what you love, mainly to keep your chops. Then, just stock-pile them, and wait for an opportunity to happen.

Also, just so I am honest. Jazz infused tracks, and more complexed chordings/arrangements don’t do well in “TV Libraries” BUT they do really well for Movies, and Branding. I have been getting my Jazzy pieces placed there.
