Hi there, I actually paid for FMN for a couple of months, and I did 3 tracks/compositions per each submission with a link to a Soundcloud Page inside of the notes. I submitted to 5 Libraries, and got a response from 4. I signed with 3.

The other companies were simply too vague, or were quite expensive, so I didn’t bother submitting to those..

I like to live dangerously, so I pull the tags off Pillows, Mattresses, and do both a Tag Ending AND a Fade!!

For Library/Catalog work I either do really BIG endings, or end on a phrase that has some power to it. But, sometimes the effects drag WAY too long on tail. So, I fade the effects/tail to shorten the duration.

When I first got started in production cues. I turned in almost 200 mixes that had fade endings. They were sent back to be re-dun..

Have you gotten in touch with your local Indian Consulate?

Hit them with a phone call..

The obvious thing to me is “The majority of these subscription services aren’t planning on being in business for more than 5 to 7 years. So, they are shooting wildly, and aimlessly because all they want to do is grab as much dough as they can and get out of the game”.

The veterans already know that this is much like “that Bulls**t culinary/you can be a Chef explosion that happened in the early 2000’s”. Most will get stuck in the lower tiers, lose interest, and fall to the waist-side. The so-called explosion/over saturation of music will become “dated old material” and there will always be a need..

Once again, if you are a Vet to this business, you will ride this out because of “your/our solid established relationships, and already being in libraries/catalogs that are very well connected”.

To the new people that are just getting started. You will have a VERY tough time. All I can say is “separate yourself from your peers, and competition by creating High Quality work; and have an even stronger work ethic! I have seen a few young(er) people make it through the ranks to become part of top tier libraries, but their work ethic & hustle is “exemplary!!”

Trust me, I have a feeling YOU need to ask if they are looking for Americana/Classic American Rock. There is a LOT of TV that is looking for a “More Classic Sound, and Less Trap/EDM/Hip Hop”. My first thoughts are “Older Established Libraries, that cater to more mature (not Porn.lol) Television..

Hi there. I like “Fortitude” a lot!
I would send emails to companies, and ask “Are they looking for Retro/Straight-ahead Rock, and Americana”. I have a feeling you would have an easier time just by making sure your “wording” in your emails/correspondence says this; so they would know whom to let review your material in their office(s)

All of the Mid-tier, and Top-tier Libraries have made it easier than ever to get in touch with them to submit music.

Trust me, Cold Calls/Emails WORK!! You just have to have what they are looking for at that time..

I would agree with it depends on your market. As well, it depends on if you have a lot of changes, or interesting things going on.

I haven’t been able to let go of a composition under 2:30, and some have gone as long as 4 minutes. Funny thing is I have several placements that have used the entire piece..

As far as track count goes. I am usually somewhere around 15 pieces for an album. Some say around 12 is normal..

    It’s so weird these days..

Just a few years back it seemed like “companies couldn’t WAIT to tell you that you were getting placements, the actual counts for Blanket Licenses & Needle Drops; and as well getting a Little sync Check. Now, it’s seems more hidden, no transparency of Cue/Song activity; and random (if any) sync fees”…

Also, congratulations on “scoring an album BenG!!”

Hi there Cozy. Sounds great! I would not change a thing!. I would suggest though that if you are going to license/place the tracks with someone else singing them; that you work out your “signing of waivers, work for hire paperwork, or splits” now!
Hit me with a PM. I have a few thoughts as to whom is looking for this type of work!

Hi there Panfur, and welcome! I don’t know off-hand anyone/company that will download files unless they requested them; or use that as their way of submitting material. You need a “streamable page”, or a webpage where they can “simply” come to it; and have a listen without committing to downloading it.. There are several..

    Good Luck!!

Hi there Ben! Sounds really good! “Como Siempre” is too short, You had me groovin’ over here and then it was over before I knew it..
“Beyond The Hills” is really good as well, I think the “Synthy Shaker thing” is too prominent in the mix, and distracting though. I’m thinking maybe even omit it. More Chris Isaac/Twin Peaks, less current model EDM..
“In Your Mind” is gonna make you some Bread!! That’s where you need to be going; never-mind primarily submitting Instrumentals!!
If that is YOU singing, I can tell you now. “That combined with your Guitar work is Your Wheelhouse!!” Your vocal is very refreshing. Much like James Taylor, smooth and effective at the same time.

    Good Work!!

**Footnote** I would do an edit, and shorten the entry for “In My Mind”. You need to get to that vocal pronto!! Also, it should be first in your Soundcloud line-up, That’s your deal getter!!

Go to “Member Services” there is a drop-down menu, and you pick Personal Messaging.. It depends on if the person has elected to accept messaging though..

Hi there Jesse, and welcome to MLR!
My suggestion is “take the opportunity to investigate all that MLR has to offer!!” On the right hand side there is a clickable link to “Access 500+ Libraries”. It has several ways to “Filter” and find exactly what you are looking for. Make sure you read ALL of the comments on the threads..
The further you look back, it shows MUCH more information, and honest candor about the companies. (Some go back before 2010) It seems that people became “more reluctant to post the good juicy tidbits now that there is less Milk & Honey to go around 2014/2015..”

Trust me, The resources available here on this forum are “invaluable!!”
