Desire_InspiresParticipant
I don’t see it being a big deal. The deal seems more beneficial to a band that wants to make a few extra dollars from licensing without learning the details of music licensing. No copyright is transferred.
I really do not add music to my Soundcloud since I am not trying to attract a fanbase. I only put a new song up there when I am trying to get a song into a music library.
Desire_InspiresParticipantThe normal for today is no demo fees, no upfront money, and no sync fees. The only compensation for most placements will only be backend royalties from a PRO.
If someone signs up with a royalty free company, they will probably only receive the initial payment and no backend royalties.
That is the new normal to me. Some may have different experiences.
Desire_InspiresParticipantHi,
can anyone explain a non English native speaker what you guys mean with ” gratis blanket licensing”. I read that many libraries do this now but I do not have a clue what it really means. Thanx….
A gratis (gratis = free in Spanish) blanket license is when a music library gives a client access to some or all of the music available in that library for free (free as in no money is exchanged).
This means that some music libraries give away access to the music for free. They do this because they intend on making up for the lost fee by earning publishing royalties when music is used on TV shows.

Desire_InspiresParticipantA great pseudonym could work.

Desire_InspiresParticipantFor a bunch of busy, successful guys, you sure do have a lot of time to argue on the internet.
I agree. I apologize if I ruffled any feathers. Good luck and much success to the OP!
Art, please delete any offensive comments I have made.
Desire_InspiresParticipantA tolerance for risk is needed for any business venture.
Desire_InspiresParticipantI may be coming off as a Debbie Downer here but MHO is this is one of the worst businesses to enter at this point in time.
Not really. Composers worry too much.
Desire_InspiresParticipantThe litigation BS is for the super rock stars with well known songs who get cranky when a big brand rips them off and makes a national commercial. No one is concerned with everyone’s ukelele and U2-like didies providing a wallpapered background for TV shows and corporate videos,….and the occasional TV spot. That’s my 2 cents on the entire matter.
Agreed.
Desire_InspiresParticipantI have read and signed a variety of contracts. I am no expert, but I have a general grasp on what terms are reasonable.
Half of the publisher’s share is a stretch, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.
