GlennParticipant
Mmmm …. Reality check 2.0 🙁
I did a lot of research the last couple of months and its not getting better unfortunately.
GlennParticipantThings are changing more rapidly as ever. But not always for the bad.
If I read al this it worries me as a starting library musician. And maybe my pad need some tactic changes. As starting in the non exclusive markets is maybe not a good start anymore? What is the thought of the pro’s about this?
And how al this subscription models change is affecting the exclusive libraries?
GlennParticipantIt was a Tunesat detection.
I usually come up with the title first so by then I have a good idea of the direction that I am heading. Sometimes things don’t always work out that way though.
Thanks!
GlennParticipantI’ve been making an effort to title my tracks so they are indicative of the musical content or a potential usage. I think it pays off. Here’s a track called Ball Control that is being used on a World Cup promo on the cartoon network. Wondering if others are doing something similar.
Nice job btw! 🙂
How you know so fast you cue is used for this clip?
GlennParticipantInteresting!
I try to do that myself also (for the few tracks I have uploaded) Do you guys have a technique to get the right title?
How do you translate the cue’s feeling to text?
I make the cue with a goal in mind. And what I did I played the cue for some people and asked what they heard. When the 2 have resemblance I think i’m on the right track.
I wonder how you achieve this?
Thanks,

I don’t think customers will be put off by it in the royalty free world. If you look at Audiojungle for instance the top selling author there is called Stock Sounds.
Thanks for your thoughts on this!
And your totally right about the top seller at audiojungle.
I can now change it relatively easily because I’m just starting. Better save then sorry ?
But your post takes away my concern about this. Thanks again.

I’d like to think that if your music is good enough for them to make money on, a “professional” library wouldn’t care about your previous tracks being in a stock music library. Creators have to take advantage of all the different business models to make any money (at least at a certain level) and this should be understood by the “professionals”.
Hey Michael,
Thank you for your answer.
I think I was not clear enough in my question or you read to fast 😉
It is not if they will accept my music or not. It is about if it is good or bad to use the word stock in my company name.
Thanks,
GlennGlennParticipantHey Glen I just thought on the cinematic track the open synth….reminded me of an 80s style synth….or maybe I’m wrong..with massive or Ominisphere you could blow me away at the beginning…if you take these to an exclusive your gonna need to wow them right out the gate…rise and hit cineMagic effects at the get go ..you could keep those synths and possibly layer them…make it wider and bigger…please understand these are just my observations…but these are good tracks just trying to help you make them bigger…peace out
I was thinking and thinking … mmm what is a dated sound in these 2 cue’s.
But then you mentioned 80’s style synth. And yess there is U-he Diva in it and it is a Jan Hammer kind of Roland sound that you hear there. And it is actually very dated indeed. (Haha) I just love those sounds and they feel timeless for me. But your so right it is a fact and it is actually dated to probably most of us and i get that completely.
This is a very good question. What sounds not dated and also is still relevant in 5 or 10 years. 🙂
Thanks cyberk91 that was an eye opener for me and a nice look from another perspective!
GlennParticipantGlennParticipantHey Glen these tracks were soundcloud for a moment you must have changed your mind.. Your tracks seem to be well thought out and are arranged well…on the other hand some of your samples seem dated to me …also when I do transitions I use risers, whitenoise, stutters or such to give warning …here comes the change …When I do cinematic stuff I gravitate to Damage by native instruments it has great transistors for cinematic stuff..but this is all personal choice….on the second tracks your synth not sure if it was midi or not seemed way to bright…I hope this helps…keep up the good work!
Hi Cyberk,
I think my first post was blocked at first because of the pond5 link. So nothing showed up. So I uploaded the soundcloud versions. Then I guess Art green-light my initial post.
I really wonder what samples are dated in you opinion? If you can point that out? It will help me a lot 🙂
I can only agree on the transitions in the cinematic!
Thank you for taking the time to listen. And yes it is helpful! for sure.
Glenn
GlennParticipantMy start will probably be in the RF library’s to begin with. And then hopefully take the step to the exclusive library’s.
Not in this business for the fast 6 figures. I’m here to hopefully make some money with the knowledge I have gained over the past 25 years.
GlennParticipantThanks beatslinger!
Maybe my translation was a bit of (english is not my native language)
It can be a cue of your own but not have to be. There must be cue’s that from time to time are talked about in the library world and have a spotlight on it. There are probably 100’s if you are in the game professionally. Cue’s that you think of damn I wish I made that one.
GlennParticipantListen here: Americana Morning
That stimulated my imagination! 🙂
GlennParticipantI would say “Americana Morning” is our best selling both on RF sites and for performances, mainly in commercials.
Ironically it was probably the quickest track ever written. It took us about 3 hours and was a pitch for a Nature’s Valley Granola Bar (which we won). Since then it’s appeared in many commercials and currently in an Oxiclean commercial running nationwide.
That is very nice Art! Curious how it sounds. Will check it out as soon as possible.
When the flow is there people can rise above themselves.
Thanks for your example!
