I believe that for the latest Logic update you needed to have one of the later OS updates as well. I’m still on 10.9.5 so it counts me out (as I treat OS updates very similar to how you’ve outlined DAW updates). You might already be good to go with the OS but just thought I’d throw that out there.

Although I don’t know who they are I’d imagine that they might be a sub-publisher of one of the other libraries you might be working with.

You can actually search for this criteria using the library search function. Just click on the “500+ Libraries” link under the Access Music Libraries section (top right of your screen), then scroll down. That’ll be your best bet for starters.

If it’s a blanket to a Scripps network and you get no share of the blanket fee (even a few pennies), there will be no back end for US broadcasts and therefore you may likely get nada.

How is this allowed? Is it just written that way in the agreement between the network and the library?

    More than welcome.

I think once you figure out what you’re aiming at musically, you’ll want to begin looking for libraries that mainly do “that.” Maybe that means going to the RF market, maybe that means finding exclusives who provide lots of music for reality tv…or more of a trailer house…or something in between. Who knows. But you’ll get it squared away I’m sure.

@Peter – I think every person is a little different. It’s a better use of my time and energy to write music on purpose knowing which library it’s going to and what it’s being pitched for (at least initially). Most of the time now I’m writing to a brief or being asked to supply a series of tracks that fit a certain vibe. What I was doing before was writing music….then trying to figure out what I should do with it, what type of production it might be suitable for, then which library (or libraries) I thought it would do best with. It left me with a lot of frustration.

For reality tv, I’d take a look at a couple of folks:
    Ah2 Music: http://www.ah2music.com/
    * Ah2 Music is probably the highest level of reality tv music in that they seem to almost be scoring entire seasons of reality tv shows. They’re pretty much they’re own music library for this purpose as well.
    Russell Bell: http://russellbellmusic.com/

For the trailer and promo music stuff, look no further than our own @Mark Petrie and guys like Chris Haigh, Ivan Torrent, Thomas Bergersen (Two Steps From Hell).

Certainly Daryl and Donn’s music linked above for the niche orchestral stuff.

For advertisements and jingles, maybe take a look at Andrew Oye’s stuff ( http://www.andrewoye.com/ ). I’m not in this space so I’m not really sure of other people.

But in each case there are libraries that deal more specifically with these types of productions….so it might allow you to channel a better outcome for the music writing skills that you have (if that makes sense).

This blog post from Russell Bell might also help a little bit:

What type of music are you focusing on? Reality tv underscore, advertising and jingles, trailer and promo music, music geared more towards sports and documentaries?

I have a couple dozen tracks with them over the past 12-14 months. Various styles of music and such. I received a little sync fee from them earlier this year for one of my tracks ($155). They were never able to track down the finalized product for whatever my music was used for.

I haven’t sent anything their way as my focus has been mainly exclusive libraries I’ve not had a lot of dealings with them.
