Michael NickolasParticipant
>Many RF libraries, like AS and PT require customers to file cues sheets for broadcast use.<
And I would say, a good reason to to register your RF (and original title NE’s) under your own publishing company.
Michael NickolasParticipantYour question made me curious, a quick search shows the term “non-exclusive copyright” in this Stanford University article:
I don’t totally understand it, it’s still confusing, so I won’t comment. Just wanted to point you to the article.
Michael NickolasParticipantMine would have been the same as the previous two quarters, except for a $425 “adjustment” in my favor. It appears I got paid for two network placements that should have been in the July statement. Who knows, but I’ll take it…
I agree that it is frustrating, the payout amounts for the cable shows. Just as frustrating are streaming payouts. I got 60 cents for 135,000 streams of a show on Hulu.
I think the songwriters equity act has to do with getting paid for streams on services like Spotify, Pandora and etc. not necessarily cable.
Michael NickolasParticipantHi Paolo, I’ve dealt with elbow tendinitis a few times. Not from a mouse though. Once from improper guitar technique and once from fixing up an old house. Tendinitis is an overuse injury, so they say to stop doing the action that causes it. Not usually possible. Heat up your elbow before you start in the studio, then ice it down after your done.
My internet computer has a mouse, which sometimes can bother my wrist. So I switch off hands. Sometimes I use my right, sometimes my left (t’s easy for me being left handed). This helps me from overusing one or the other. Try it! Also, put a support under the heel of your hand so it’s not bending back at the wrist. A cassette box works nicely, but they do sell specific mouse supports.
In my studio, I have a trackball for the righthand. Can’t really switch off on this, but it doesn’t bother me.
Michael NickolasParticipantYes, I’ve had correspondence from Music Reports and they are legit. Big streaming companies go to them to “secure and administer mechanical rights” for the music they include in their streaming service.
Music Reports used to send US snail mail notices to me, but now do it via email I think. Streaming companies like Amazon and Microsoft. I think I received a check from Music Reports for a penny once. I framed it.

Michael NickolasParticipant>I mean…spots like Apollo Live, Mibe, Epitome, Atomica, Pacifica,…I would never join an exclusive library that does gratis licenses like JP.<
I didn’t realize those libraries always collect sync fees and don’t do gratis licenses! What is your share of a typical sync fee, are they decent or smaller payouts?
Michael NickolasParticipantCredits for a version of a PD song created by you are usually:
Composer/Author – Traditional
Arranger – You
Publishing – Your companyMichael NickolasParticipantThanks for the Jam Origin tip. Think I’ll try it once V2 is out of beta…
Michael
Michael NickolasParticipantYeah, my hat off to anyone doing convinving parts with a keyboard and virtual instruments! A lot of time and trouble…
Michael NickolasParticipantHa, I missed Art’s post as I was typing up mine. Great minds think alike! 🙂
Michael NickolasParticipantCool! Be careful tuning it like a Dobro. Dobro tuning is typically GBDGBD. Tuning the low E string up to G and the fifth string A up to B puts extra tension on your neck. Dobro’s can handle the tension because of the thick square neck, but your old Yamaha guitar probably can’t. Try a typical slide guitar tuning instead – DGDGBD. This tunes the fifth and sixth strings down instead of up.
Another tip is to try an extension nut like this:

Use it in conjunction with a steel bar!
Michael NickolasParticipantHow much does a virtual instrument like those cost? Years ago I bought an actual resonator guitar for about $350. It’s easily paid for itself. As a guitar player, why not do that? Inexpensive Resonator’s and Dobro’s are ok for library work (underlying flavor) because they don’t need a pristine neck and setup. The strings of course are not fretted so action and intonation is not a big concern.
Michael NickolasParticipantI use Heritage Insurance Services, INC.
http://www.musicins.com/Michael NickolasParticipantPretty soon no one will be allowed to put a snare on two and four…
Michael NickolasParticipantEasy enough to find contact info. for Box of Music. Maybe just ask them?
