    That’s great @vlad
I’ve also been noticing more backend action for our composers from ML placements.
Over the last three years it has been steadily increasing.

Yes but don’t you provide the PRO info if requested?

Yes. When our customers request composer info for their cue sheet we provide it to them.

fyi- All of our distribution partners are performance free as well.
It is definitely not a new trend / business model as some believe. It has been around for 20 years or more.

Not sure what library you are referring to but here at ML our median price of what customers are paying for music has remained pretty much the same since we started 10 years ago. If anything it has gone up a bit.
I see no downward trend at all.
I do see the quality of music going up though which might make it seem like prices are going down.

    Hi angopop-
You can contact my programmer here
    http://nettraction.in/contact-us.php
He is at a convention in the US right now but should be back soon.
He works by the hour so it shouldn’t cost too much. I’ll let him give you a price though as I guess it depends what is involved.
Usually you just give him access to your server and it is done in 20 minutes.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Looks much better now. Easy to know what your site is about and what you have to offer.

The title tag is one of the most important elements google looks at when choosing where to rank your page. Your current one is very general…
    <title>MUSIC</title>

I would update your title tag to something more specific, like…

<title>Download Free Music to Use In Your Videos</title>

The description meta tag is not important as to where you rank in Google but is very important for users of the search engine to know what your site is about. It is something you have direct control as to how your site is listed.
Right now you do not have one.
I would suggest putting something like…
<meta name=”description” content=”Free soundtrack music to download and use in your videos. If you use our music please consider making a donation “/>

Also, you’re kind of burying the headline by putting the free music notice and the donate button at the very bottom of the page.
I would move that up front and center. Free music downloads will get you links from other sites. And links from other sites gets you more traffic and better search rankings.

In regards to MLS software it does not have traffic reports as the free service from Google Analytics does an amazing job of doing that already. No need to recreate what they do so well.

For examples of what the MLS software looks like in use here is Art’s site
    http://cueteam.com/

    and another recent install…

    Hope this helps.

There are lots of reasons this website did not work for you Tawmy.
There is no text on the home page telling the visitor what your site is about.
This is also why search engines probably never found your site.
The super wide banner does not fit into a normal browser width and you have to scroll to read it.
Music plays automatically (a bad thing, customers should choose to play music)
There is no obvious sign of what to do from the home page, just a spinning graphic with no navigation links… ah I see if you scroll all the way to the bottom it says ‘enter here’ (that should be at the top)
So actually this should have been your home page
    http://www.tawmy.com/music
It has navigation links and music to choose from.

If you change your mind and would like to continue trying to sell your music via your own website I would suggest tying the free MLS software we have available here
    http://www.musiclicensingsoftware.com/
The default site that this software creates is designed to sell music and to give you a chance at showing up in the search engines.

Wow, congratulations Art, your site looks/sounds awesome.
And thanks for outlining your experience with the installation. Very helpful.

We are keeping list of immediate todo’s and long range todo’s.

Immediate would be to add a package price field to the CSV importer. Total oversight on our part.

I think we can also add a ‘download preview’ function fairly easily as well.

    We will keep everyone posted.

PS- Don’t forget to add unique descriptions in the genre headings as this is very helpful for SEO.

Not sure what to tell you.
You might want to check with support at Hostgator. They should be able to tell you what is going on.
If not you can make a request for my programmer to help you install on the message board here on our site…

    Good luck.

One of our ML composers has recently created his own music licensing website using MLS software and the CSV importer to link all of his music from files that existed on a remote server.
    Looks pretty cool….

    Hi Eduardo-
    Just to help a bit.

    1. Our software has nothing to do with wordpress and will not show up as a plugin in your wordpress account because our software is not a wordpress plugin.

    2. When you install our software you would basically be creating a whole new website on your server that you can link to from your wordpress blog or from anywhere else.

    3. To install on hostgator (or any other server really) you just need ftp access. ftp just lets you upload files to your server.
Unzip the MLS software on your local hard drive, then in your hostgator admin area…

    Login to cPanel.
    Under Files, click File Manager.
Select Web Root and Show Hidden Files, then click Go.
Click to open the folder to which you’d like to upload files.
Click Upload from the top toolbar.
Click Browse (some web browsers will have Choose File instead).
Select the file on your computer that you wish to upload.
Once the file has been selected, it will automatically upload. You may select additional files while uploads are in progress.

You should probably create a new directory for your music licensing store unless you want it to show up as your main website at root level.

Once you have everything copied over go to the install page of our software and follow the instructions.

    From my programmer:
Considering the various remote server possibilities and security issues, I didn’t venture into pulling file sizes from remote servers.

    Hi Art

You can always just leave the column blank and everything will work fine but the file size area for each track on your site will show 0.00 megabytes.

Or if it does not matter to you or your customers you can simply copy and paste 7 megabytes (or whatever) into each of the fields in that column.

    Hi Musicmatters.
This all just sounds harder than it is.
The folder where you extracted the file needs to be writable, which means you need to change its permissions.
You can do that either in your ftp program (most programs have a function to change the permission of a folder) or in a shell window where you would ‘chmod’ the folder to the correct permissions like 777.

Here are a couple of youtube tutorials showing how to do it using fileZilla

The same concept applies to other ftp programs and to macs.

This tutorial is a really good explanation of what is exactly is happening on the server when you change files permissions and also shows you how to change permissions simply by using the chmod command in a terminal window.

Don’t let all this scare you, it is a lot easier than it all sounds/looks 😉

    Hi John-
You would have to ask the people at Bandzoogle but just taking a quick look at their service it seems like you wouldn’t be able to as they seem to be an all-in-one plug and play type service.
But again you should ask them if they allow you to have ftp access and access to a mysql database in any of their offers.
