Dear 1000 tracks,
Please do not blast music on your website to unsuspecting visitors without a CLEAR option to turn it down/off. That’s usually reserved for a 13 year old girls myspace page.
And half of the shows you have listed on your page go through the same music supervisor. Congrats, you’ve made a contact!
What a joke.
So what do you guys feel is the proper deal? I have read a lot of posts but no matter what the deal is some one complains. I am very curious to know what deal would make people happy.
Look forward to gaining some wisdom.
Proper deal?
They pay you – you don’t pay them.
I was speaking more in depth… like your database survey for each library. What would the splits and other categories need to be for a good deal?
If it’s non-exclusive as long as I get 100% of my PRO I’m happy. I can still use these tracks in other libraries. If it’s exclusive, it would be proper to get 50% of the licensing – since there may be buy-outs. Reversal clause no longer than 5 years. Other than that; read all the fine print.
When you say 100% of PRO… do you mean 100% of Writers and Publishers?
Yes, the publisher can keep his.
I can never comprehend the mindset of people that run these scams. They can’t possibly have a conscience. It must be an awful cold and lonely World to them.
I also got only unprofessional one-sentence emails from them. They courted me, showing high interest (discovered my through MySpace), and never actually asked me for the $4 some of you guys mentioned. However, I still never wound up sending them material as it just didn’t seem professional enough of an enterprise, and I was hesitant to deal w/ them for that reason.
A legitimate company will answer all your questions gracefully. Being evasive is a definite sign of a scam.
I don’t think 1000 Tracks is a legit company.
They said they “loved” 3 of my songs. But they were very evasive with all questions I asked. They contradicted themselves. Everything smelled of scam.
So I guess the field
“Charge For Submissions: No”
Shoul be corrected to:
“Charge For Submissions: YES”
Great Music! Congratulations!
Your material has been approved! You have a green light to submit more tracks. But before doing so, we recommend you take a look at our non-exclusive agreement (attached). This is the agreement that will authorize us to represent your music for any TV and Film placements. Once you read it and if still interested, you should consider submitting more music if you would like to maximize your chances of placement.
2 ways to do it:
– Via website using a credit card. Going back to our site and submitting more music. (When you are done submitting all of your material, we’ll ask you to mail back the agreement along with a CD with all of the approved songs).
– By regular mail using a check or money order. You should fill out the attached agreement and mail it along with either the tracks we’ve already approved or all of the tracks you consider appropriate. By mail, we also charge $4.00 per track, a one-time charge per track. You should deduct the track/s you have paid for and mail a check or money order for the balance payable to 1000TRACKS, for the rest of the tracks. We will only honor $4.00 per track so please make sure you send exact payment.
Congratulations again!
Also, if you want to submit the instrumental versions of your songs, highly recommended since most networks may use them, make sure you send appropriate payment for them as they need to be screened and uploaded into our systems just as any other song.
1000TRACKS.COM can not guarantee use or placement of your music even when being approved by us. Our music staff may also reject your music even after being submitted via mail along with our contract.
They ask you to pay 4Usd to be pre-screened. Once you get approved tehy mail you a very rewarding “congratulations!” email, asking you to pay again for each song you want to license them. Bummer
My experience with 1000 tracks was dissapointing. They liked my submissions, sent agreement, I mailed everything in. Then out of the blue was told that they were not going to add me to their library. It was a pretty long process and I am not sure why they reviewed me and accepted me only to then say no thanks. I probably won’t bother again
