Noiiz is a subscription-based music production platform that offers access to a library of samples, loops, presets and even virtual instruments. It can serve as a great alternative to Splice and to Output’s Arcade. It also features a new plugin called Connect.
The best way to experience the Noiiz app is to set up a free account and give it a go. If you’d like to check out their sounds, you can also browse the website and download them from there. In fact, it is possible to listen to the loops and samples without creating an account.
Sounds
The sounds menu has a list of Sample Packs complete with cover art that you can explore. You can also organize any content that you discover by tagging favorites or adding individual samples to a folder e.g. for each project you are working on. Any previously downloaded samples are also accessible here to grab again should you need to.
You can search by keyword to start looking for samples or you can go to an advanced search page where many more parameters can be entered. In fact, for me the advanced search is where Noiiz comes into its own. You can search by a wide variety of genres. Additionally, you can search by instrument, creator, tempo range and whether you want a loop or a one shot. One of the best search features for me is the ability to set which key you would like the sample to be in. Although the plugin can pitch shift it for you, I like having the option to preserve the audio fidelity of the sample by keeping its original key if possible.
The Noiiz plugin can integrate with your DAW, allowing you to match sample playback to your project tempo. You can then preview your chosen sample within your track at the right speed. Although this feature has been available within many DAWs to preview samples already on your hard drive, it’s pretty cool to be able to do this with cloud hosted previews as well.
Virtual Instruments and Extras
You’ll also find that Noiiz offers a selection of their own virtual instruments. These instruments run in the Noiiz Player and have a pretty good sound: Instruments. What’s more, you’ll find a decent collection of presets for a variety of synthesizers: Presets. From our quick check they are available for Serum, Sylenth, Massive and FM8. Last of all, a surprisingly good extra is the Noiiz Filter plugin, available here: Filter. This nifty little filter has a white noise generator capable of creating vinyl type sounds and can work great in lofi tracks.
Pricing
The pricing for Noiiz is $5/month for the Light account, $10/month for a Regular account and $199/year for an unlimited account. If you like the samples and instruments you hear, $199/year provides excellent value. With a free account you can download 50MB of samples for free, as well as the designated free packs Noiiz has available.
Conclusion
Overall, Noiiz is well worth a look, even if just to try out the free account. The range of samples and the new Connect plugin make Noiiz an attractive alternative to its competitors.
