Critiques

I’m working on a way to set up cue – track critiques. I’m thinking that a user (who would like a critique of their music) would log in, upload a track, enter their title, tags and description and get some feedback from folks here. Could be helpful. Any thoughts or ideas?

BTW I have not forgotten about the radio station idea:-)

  1. Thanks Michael,

I agree it will take some thought to try and come up with the right concept. I could always give the person the option of password protecting their track and implement a PM feature for contacting.

As I’ve stated before I’ve never felt comfortable critiquing other people’s work but for composers just starting out it has value. It has to be constructive and kind though or what’s the point.

  2. Hey Art,

I think some variation on that theme would work. As I recall, I’ve seen something similar, maybe through FMN, where they charge a fee for the critique.

However, some people might not comfortable with an open critique. I know that many people avoid posting compositions over at VI, because there are some…shall we say..opinionated writers.

I exchanged opinions with a few writers off the MLR. Maybe there’s a way to set that up, where you can give writers the option of an open critique or not.

I know that Matt has offered advice advice, most recently to Cari. I’d be willing to give a listen, and throw in my 2 cents.

Sometimes I feel like I need advice, when the track that I’m writing NEEDS to go against my instincts or when I’m steeping out of my comfort zone (like now, when I’ve got to do some hip hop and nu metal).

I say it’s a good idea worth pursuing.

    Best,

    Michael
