I logged into ASCAP today to see what’s going on with new cue sheets and I see 120 sports events that were broadcast. 120 cue sheets on file. I notice Mark (Regular contributor here) has the main theme for all of Saturday’s Games. How is it that this all happens with $0 in performance royalties? If ASCAP is not paying for this network, why are cue sheets getting filed? Does BMI pay for BTN?

hey @Music1234
I’m with BMI. I see payouts from BTN airings for BI varying from as small as a dime to $6 per each individual performance.

Seems like BMI pays out for all BTN performances where cue sheets are filed. From cents to dollars per placement.
Pretty sure this was discussed recently in another thread. The Mark you mentioned composed a theme that BTN uses consistently. Due to the ASCAP survey he misses out on significant payouts whereas his wife who is with BMI get’s paid. Even with hitting the survey overall he mentioned he’s missed out on thousands over the years. Bummer….

October 25, 2017 at 2:21 pm #28722Music1234ParticipantThank you all for the responses. I suppose I’ll remain patient and hope that these royalties cycle through. Many of the cues were on air in fall of 2016 for football games and Q1 of 2017 (Basketball). Nothing has paid on Domestic ASCAP statements yet. Hopefully, they will play catch up in January. Chuck, which show are you getting paid for? This list below, I have never seen a dime and all aired in Q3 and 4 of 2016 and Q1 and 2 of 2017.

October 26, 2017 at 8:36 am #28728Music1234ParticipantSo Chuck you were paid for BTN Live and Big Football and Beyond as an ASCAP writer? As you can see, I have 58 cue sheets for that show. I have not been paid. Were your royalties from 2015 or 2016?

Lucky you Chuck! Sounds like you had some music caught in a survey. When that happens, we get a nice pay out.
October 27, 2017 at 4:38 am #28735ChuckMottParticipantMy plays were all in 2015.
October 27, 2017 at 8:14 am #28736Music1234ParticipantChuck did they pay on time? or did you get the performance royalties in the last cycle? Octobers 2017 Domestic check or were you paid on time in 2016?
Sorry about continuing this discussion, I am holdiong onto an inkling of hope that ASCAP will pay, just late. The publisher seems to believe that eventually we’ll all be paid off the cue sheets and not surveys.
Either BTN is paying ASCAP a licensing fee or they are not. If they are, we should be getting paid. Mark, have you filed an inquiry with ASCAP? I do see your name on these cue sheets.
October 27, 2017 at 2:18 pm #28737CHuck MottGuestYes, I remember going through the cue sheets, and thinking, I did pretty well this quarter but Mark is killing it.I don’t understand why you wouldn’t be getting paid for all those placements, but I would definitely want to understand .
October 27, 2017 at 5:20 pm #28739BEATSLINGERParticipantYou know something, it’s fun to watch “The Rounders” speak about their cues. The only people that I am noticing that are not in the convo are “Abby”, “Pat”, and “LAWriter”.

1. I don’t recall ever getting a placement on BTN. I actually had to look it up to see what it was….. 🙂
2. I’m not with ASCAP and their silly survey system….. I’m with BMI and their opaque crony system.
So carry on boys. I sincerely hope you all get your fair pay!!!!!!!
