ChuckMottParticipant
I would say, if you don’t need or want Hollywood Strings, then those two packages, along with Goliath, Ra, and Gypsy would give you a really nice workstation of sounds. Add on a good synth, and you’re set. Maybe a good set of Acoustic drums, an amp sim, and some decent pianos (where I thin the gold package lacks). Put those together with NI Komplete ( you would probably do fine with their synths, but maybe not the drums or pianos) and you’d be set for a long long time.
It’s nice to be living in a day and age where for less then probably $5000 you’d gave access to same world class sounds as some of the biggest composers int eh industry.
That said, Mr. Kubed is getting placed like crazy with a fairly minimal amount (although great quality) of synths and VSTS. It’s all in your skills and how you use it.
ChuckMottParticipantThe BTN (Big Ten Network) is a streaming paid subscription site focusing on sports. I have one track with like 150 uses over at least a couple shows. Not sure what it pays but at this stage of the game I am nothing but grateful. I think they have me on like 8 shows.
ChuckMottParticipantO.K. , the BTN network? Streaming?
ChuckMottParticipantIs the trend still for NE’s eventually to move to exclusive? I just started getting placements like a year ago, but I have to say, in that small time frame, exclusive libraries are way outperforming NE’s I’m in in numbers of placements.
ChuckMottParticipantThanks Michael. I’m at least committing to going to this one in NY in 2 weeks. Looking forward to it.

I agree the research is part of the process. The way the library world seems to change the best option is to go the lifetime membership route, which was what I did 3 years ago, as today’s cutting edge research could likely be old news and changed considerably three months from now.
That said, Art, feel free to delete my posts in this thread, I otherwise won’t be reading or responding to PM’s on this topic. And no, I don’t want to be responsible even in part for some of my favorite libraries getting inundated. So thanks.

I’ve recently started to be getting some placements. Be happy to reciprocate with folks. I write a lot of americana-ish types of music (meaning southern rock, acoustic stuff), country, some dance (that leans more towards pop them say EDM), hick hop. My southern rock has seemed to do better then others. Post rock stuff in the style of Explosions in the Sky, etc. Straight up guitar rock stuff. Corporate-ish stuff for RF although that wouldn’t account for any TV placements. PM if interested in sharing (emphasis on sharing). Thanks!
ChuckMottParticipantCouldn’t find the link to post, but believe it or not, I’ve been checking my “publisher ” ASCAP account and wondering why I didn’t see anything , even though I know I had some interest from certain tracks. Then got a check from ASCAP , who informed me when I called that I was checking the wrong account and to check my writers account. Turns out I started placing stuff about a year ago, on several shows (needless to say I was thrilled).
In my case, One library did very well for me above all others . The second top performer was a surprise to me. But most who I submitted to got me something, which makes me want to submit to several others once again and see what happens. A technique in sales (my new day career for the last year) they call spray and pray :). I personally would be leary of counting primary on one library although honestly that one library made most of my money this year.
ChuckMottParticipantI guess I wanted to revive this question, specifically for Linked In. I was wondering if anyone found this site helpful for composers to make professional connections, whether it be music libraries, music supervisors, ad agencies, what have you. Has anyone really worked this site and had much success here building connections in the music world (one reason I ask is that I have an account there, but I am going to focus on making that my page more related to my day job, but only if other composers have not really found it helpful. Either way I want to start “working ” it. Thanks for responding.
March 28, 2016 at 8:28 am in reply to: Wondering if exclusive libraries are interested in 30-second cuts #24507ChuckMottParticipantA popular exclusive jut approved my tracks and asked for 30 sec and 60n sec cuts. The other I’m involved in does not. Best to ask the library, why do the additional work (for an exclusive) if they don’t want it.
ChuckMottParticipantGot me wondering if I can use Addictive Drums midi loops , convert them to midi tracks, and then alter them with drummer. Then use them in either Drummer in Logic or bring them back into AD.
I’ve used Omnisphere for just about everything. It’s a big beautiful synth, I’m still learning how to use. Getting very into creating my own patches or altering presets these days. But back about 4 years ago I was looking hard at either Omnisphere or Alchemy, and went with Omnisphere. But Logic includes Alchemy now, and Apple gave it a major revision when they bought it. Was wondering what people (with more synth expertise myself which isn’t asking much 🙂 ) thought of it.
Thanks for getting me thinking on Drummer.
ChuckMottParticipantI think I deduce that you have only been at this a year, I do think it is not uncommon to take longer then that. I believe your production to be o.k., probably just a matter of writing more. 20 tracks no matter how good is a small number in this world. Waiting up to 3 years or longer is not uncommon. But I do believe you really need to up the number of tracks you have in libraries. I think you’d do fine if you stick it out and keep writing.
ChuckMottParticipantMy opinion: If your a musician, it’s in your blood. You’re going to keep plugging away no matter what. Many of my friends over the years just got it out of their system and don’t do much anymore. Some of us stick around because it’s still our passion and part of our makeup. We’ll stick around while the rest fade away create some good (and some lousy) tracks and hopefully some real gems will emerge. It’s all we can hope for. Hopefully income will grow as our catalog grows…
ChuckMottParticipantIs interesting, thinking on this…yes this was pretty similar in style to the track I as thinking of. Actually is a track called “Tracked” on my SC page. And I am kind of a fan of the Reznor/Atticus Ross stuff.
ChuckMottParticipantThat was the way I was leaning also, thanks Mark.
