Danny TruittParticipant
most people i know have switched to the streaming services
In addition to iTunes downloads, both Tunecore and CD Baby can put your music on Apple Music, Apple’s music streaming service. CD Baby has a good brief overview of Apple Music here: https://members.cdbaby.com/apple-music
Danny TruittParticipantHi, Mark,
I don’t have my heart set on any particular aspect of production music. I was just complimenting you on the obvious quality of your advice and for taking the time to give it.
I’ve been trying to write for the commercial song market for many years and quite honestly–even though I’ve had limited success–I’m having difficulty giving that up. I’m just beginning to look into and learn about production music. Believe me, I fully understand what I would be up against in producing a product that would be considered for a commercial movie trailer, but I’ve been facing pretty much the same thing in the songwriting market. If I do jump in, I will definitely go after the “low-hanging fruit” first. Thank you again for more excellent advice. You speak the truth.
Danny
Danny TruittParticipantMark,
I’m brand new to production music and I haven’t determined my directions yet, so I don’t actually know at the moment if I’ll be trying to place trailers, but I just want to join the others here in thanking you for being willing to share and taking the time to give detailed answers to these questions. Much appreciated!
Danny
Danny TruittParticipantWow! Haven’t seen that before! Art and I posted at exactly the same time! Not trying to “up” you, Art – I guess I was just typing at the same time you were!
Danny TruittParticipantI’m not sure this addresses your questions, but PROs collect money (royalties) on the works owned by their members (publishers and writers/composers). They differ in their methods of monitoring and collecting royalties, and there are some rather intricate schemes internally as to how some distributions are made, but basically, they will consolidate all income for a work, from all sources, and distribute it equally–50% to the publisher(s) of the work and 50% to the writer(s)/composer(s) of the work. In the songwriting business, if I have a song that earns $1,000 in royalties for a distribution period, I will receive $500 as the writer of the song and the publisher will receive $500 as their share. I hope this is helpful.
Danny TruittParticipantI’m not an expert on this at all, but if, when you register your works, you give each library the same ASCAP Work ID for the alternate titles, I would think you’re O.K. But it might be best just to open a Member Service Inquiry (top right of your membership login screen) and ask ASCAP directly. They usually get back pretty quickly.
Danny TruittParticipantI think that’s also called a “button” ending in some places, right?
Danny TruittParticipantExcellent! Thank you!

Danny TruittParticipantThanks for taking the time to check them out, Paolo. Good advice – and that’s what I need!
Danny TruittParticipantYes, that is interesting!
Danny TruittParticipantWell, I’ve downloaded Waves NX and given it a quick test. I think it has possibilities. I have other Waves plugins that I’m pleased with and the two-week demo will give me time to do more extensive testing, but I’m thinking it might be useful.
Danny TruittParticipantI got an email on it and thought about trying it, but then decided it just didn’t make sense that a “manipulated” sound field would be reliable. After seeing Golds’ post, I think I’ll give it a try. I’ll post back here after trying it.
Danny TruittParticipantHi, Carles,
I’m new here, but I’m sure they are are referring to “PMA libraries” as those music libraries that are members of the Production Music Association.
Danny TruittParticipantThanks for sharing that, Art. That looks good to me. Gives me the confidence to get started. Gonna register some stuff today and hope to start making some submissions very soon!
And as a side note, the info here has been invaluable to me in helping to decide what markets/libraries to pursue. I will happily recommend MLR to all I come in contact with.
