Kind of strange. Out of nowhere these last 3 months or so,I’ve gotten about 7 Harry Fox notices of intent to distribute music of mine via Spotify. Don’t know what sparked it. What I’ve heard is it takes a whole lot of streams for it to even amount to a little bit of money so I’ve just been shoving the notices in the drawer figuring if I see any money great but not holding my breath for sure. Maybe they’ll be a nice surprise one day.

I forgot to mention that I got a second notice on a different song and different music company.When I went to their site it was all in Chinese I believe. The translator was only able to translate enough to know it’s possibly a new music site which lists clients it has. Couldn’t find the actual song because of the language barrier.

What I found was interesting. I found the “artist” from my HF notice on the website with the title of my song indicated in the notice BUT but actual music was different. Somethings mixed up there.

That’s ok. Spotify never crossed my mind until I got this notice that an artist wanted included a song I wrote. Other than that, I shoved the notice in my drawer and on with my day. If I happen to get a few bucks great.If not, there was no effort on my part so it doesn’t really matter.

Thanks for the info daveydad! Yeah,I googled around a bit and found pretty much what you stated and while every little bit helps, there’s definitely nothing to get excited about here especially over one song.

I quit dealing with them many years ago.
Maybe they’re starting to realize they’re not seeing a lot of business they could have if it wasn’t for all these restrictions. Having to send emails every time I want to use their products was unnecessarily inconvenient for me. I don’t need that.
I’m fine with the industry standard “you can’t use to make sample libraries or must be within a composition etc etc”. That’s Fair enough but I won’t deal with Big Fish until I no longer have to think about it beyond that.

Thanks for the responses guys. I looked at previous statements and I guess I just never noticed that it’s always been that way but like Frequencee said, at least there are two statements close together at the beginning of the year so It all works out.

While I haven’t had any big high profile type placements so far (maybe some day) , the placement that actually affected me the most was having had a track embedded in a toy for handicapped kids. Don’t know what toy or where.
It’s hard to explain but that really put some things in perspective for me in a very personal way. I got almost nothing for it money wise yet somehow that was the most valuable placement I think I may ever have on more of an emotional level if that makes any sense.

If you want to add a nice finishing touch without having to get to far into the nuts and bolts of how to get there (like me), I’d suggest the Lurssen Mastering Console by ikmultimedia. I demoed it and in my opinion it’s excellent sounding. The only reason I didn’t buy it is because I have a tone of plugins already. I still may get it because I like it that much. Demo it and see what you think. There are also some good before/after tracks on the site.
