SheeaunParticipant
Thanks for this Kevin. It’s a sentiment I feel also as a relative newcomer in a way.
I join for a set period and then leave again for maybe a couple of years, for the reasons above.
I’d love to be here all the time ! But it feels rather like the same old arguments go round and round in circles. Maybe that’s just my perception because I’m not here 365 days of the year ?SheeaunParticipantHi maxpower,
I’m English too ! Born and bred in Somerset, now living in Ireland (so not far).
I’m a lyricist, full time, working mainly in the sync industry. And like the rest here almost all my income comes from the USA etc, not the UK (small amount) or Ireland (very very small amount).
I too would like to chat with fellow countrymen about this business.SheeaunParticipantAt a guess maybe the network on which they were broadcast ( assumedly MTV, but this could be via SKY or some other network), have a much smaller catchment than than in the USA. There are far fewer folks in the UK, and backend royalties usually depend on the size of the network from a catchment and viewing public point of view.
Just a thought.SheeaunParticipantI’m coping well, although about 90% of my output goes to US libraries and is with US co-writers. I am a lyricist, so I rely on collaboration to get my songs out there.
As for the industry itself, I’m at the start of year 4 of my journey, so it’s early days yet. That said, I do have TV placements in quite a few countries (all from USA libraries lol) and a few album cuts (minor singer songwriters etc in USA and Canada).
It’s hard finding good professional composers, singer songwriters and so on, that want to work with a lyricist, so my output isn’t as prolific at this point as I’d like. That said it is steadily climbing so all is good. Plus I can write in many different genres, which should help.
It’s a long term game! But I’m with you, it would be really nice to have some UK/Irish libraries that take production music, instrumental and vocal.
SheeaunParticipantHi TechNoiZ – English woman living in Ireland here ๐
Hard to find libraries in Ireland for production music/songs, maybe I should look around the UK.
All of my songs are in USA and Canadian libraries. I have none in Ireland or the UK. I do have placements in Ireland and UK, but they are from USA libraries lolSheeaunParticipantThank you Art ๐
SheeaunParticipantHa !! Advice…. good one, good to laugh first thing in the morning ๐
SheeaunParticipantHi again Denis,
I wasn’t sure what you mean’t at the time, but glossed over it, but what did you mean by ‘for forum members only’ ?
I am a member/subscriber to MLR, does this mean I also need to register for the forum as well, or something ? Are there things I can’t see, even though I paid for membership ? !
Confused,
Amanda ๐SheeaunParticipantHi Tim-b,
No, I’m afraid that I seriously can’t sing – not a good sound at all and out of tune !
But I can write lyrics.
Amanda
SheeaunParticipantThank you Denis ๐
SheeaunParticipantHi Denis and thank you,
I’m over on the west coast, near Gort/Kinvara. Not soooo far away !
Crucial is great yes. I have a few songs with them, and a couple of other really nice libraries, both excl and non excl. Then some middle of the road libraries too.
Some really are most interested in the instrumental version, but there are a few good ones who cater for full songs, which is good.
I am not sure what you mean by pursuing a straight forward publishing deal, as opposed to what I am currently doing ? Excuse my not knowing ๐ I still have a lot to learn.
I am currently sorting out how to spread my eggs into more baskets, up and down the scale. From RF to top end excl companies. Different songs/tracks for different places. I’m assuming this is a good idea.
